Re: APP 17.5 favorite over ULM
I have seen one that has us as a -21. We really need a good 3-4 TD win in this game. ULM has some talent and I think a 42-14 type win would look great this week. A game like that is what you expect a ranked team to do.

That's what happens when you are ranked and you just turned in a solid defensive effort. As long as we stop their running game, we'll be close to beating the spread. With that said, all I care about is another W.

If we truly want to climb we need to beat the spread. We need wins that voters won't just leapfrog others over us for. We need something like 42-13 or 35-0, 38-7, etc. so voters will feel more confident in moving us up.InFor6More wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 6:46 pmDo just enough to win and then shift the focus to the next game.
I say this because of the comments made by this AP voter when he posted his ballot today.

I don’t agree with your assessment. It is one guy’s methodology and based on his comment that the schedule is weak enough that he can’t promise to keep them ranked, I doubt margin of victory will assuage his vote. Margin of victory won’t matter to this guy. I get that you are big on the ranking thing, but it really means nothing if we don’t win the conference.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 7:56 pmIf we truly want to climb we need to beat the spread. Read other posts from me in the top 25 thread. I have only replied to folks for most part after telling them I'm not big on rankings. None of them matter still and all today did was getting us some publicity. It has zero effect on bowls and the CFP, which is most important, is not out for a few more weeks.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 8:13 pmI don’t agree with your assessment. My point is that if we just get by 3-6 points every week in the SBC we will eventually slide or stay the same no matter if 11-0 or 13-0. I have direct messaged on message boards with at least 3 voters in FCS or FBS over the last 10 years and all 3 of them said that if you play a lesser team they want to see a score that reflects it.
Example, when San Diego was dominating the Pioneer League or Harvard dominated the Ivy League and were beating teams by 20-30 or more every week they would vote as high as say 12-15 range but if they were barely getting by they would never let them go higher than 20-22 range on their ballot. There was a ceiling but it was a little higher with the bigger margins of victory.
For that voter I'm sure if we beat ULM by 24 and his 23-25 range teams lose he will have no hesitation putting us 24-25.
Some of these voters will DM on Twitter or message boards if you are polite to them. No matter the schedule there is a margin of victory that would get their attention and usually it is beating the spread significantly.

So if you’re not big on the rankings, then why keep pontificating on them?

Win big like Baylor or SMU? Baylor scraped by on a blown call (and moved up four spots) and SMU didn’t even play (but moved up two spots). Those are two very weak top 20 resumes. Margin of victory and style points might help, but not a prerequisite. Just win baby.

Re: APP 17.5 favorite over ULM
ULM is gonna be a different animal this week. By stats, prolific offense, non existent defense. However their three losses are to FSU in OT, Memphis, and ISU. They put points up on Memphis and FSU.
I remember them putting it on us a few years ago. Their QB is mobile and a gunslinger.
Gonna need for the defense to be sharp and for our offense to control clock and score efficiently.

I’m sure Drink and Co. are pouring over the film of the 72-20 beating ISU put on ULM and the 20 point win by Memphis. This game shouldn’t be close.

They should be. Both games show how to beat the Hades out of UL-M.

If our defense plays like they did against Louisiana, I don't see ULM getting more than 17 points

Why are people saying we have a week schedule. I can't remember another year where at this point everyone we beat had a winning record (or 500 record). No losers on our schedule.
ETSU 0-0
Charlotte 1-0
Carolina 2-1
Coastal 3-1
Louisiana 4-1
Louisiana Monroe 3-3
ETSU 0-0
Charlotte 1-0
Carolina 2-1
Coastal 3-1

Louisiana Monroe 3-3
