How do we keep Drinkwitz!?!?

Unread post by Gratefulneer » Sun Oct 13, 2019 4:13 pm

I know we’ve got some time. This team was built by coaches that are over at Louisville now. However, Drinkwitz and his staff are doing a damn good job building on what was inherited. If Drinkwitz can recruit as good as he can coach, offers are going to be flying in!

My hopes are that Drinkwitz is looking at the bigger picture and a future with App. Hopefully he sees what can come from this seasoned team in its infancy of a FBS football transition. We need someone that can continue our growth and get us ready should another alignment happen. I think Drinkwitz is that guy.

The question is... how does a team in the Sunbelt hold on to someone like Drinkwitz. Assuming we can’t pay what some of these P5 conference teams can offer, how do we keep App from being a stepping stone school for coaches.

It's apparent from Drinks journey that he's not the kind of coach like J Moore was. He isn't going to stick around once those big offers roll in. Just a fact. I just wonder how many coaching transitions this program can handle. We will never have the money to compete with P5 programs so we will always be loosing coaches....... Of course we see P5 programs with crappy coaches.... So who knows.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves and enjoy the ride for now. It's too early this season to speculate about Drinkwitz leaving us. And this is coming from a guy who likes to talk about future games, rankings, and hates the 1-0 crap.

Control what you can. Enjoy the season for what it is. He will be out as soon as he gets a multimillion dollar offer

He will be here a few seasons before a P5 comes calling. He needs to show he can recruit and maintain our success.

About the only we can do is hope the Arkansas Razorbacks win enough games not to fire their coach.

I agree. Just enjoy the ride. Even the bigger boys, Louisville, are already worrying about losing their first year coach. Just the way it is unless you’re the elite programs or the NFL. Enjoy and hopefully DG if still around will make another good hire.

The only thing that gives me hope for this year is that he is too young to risk his career at a dumpster fire like Arkansas.

I just hope he is here for the 2021 season. In 2020 I believe 10 offensive starters will be seniors. 2021 could be a tough transition...as it stands (I'm sure we will lose some) we will have 32 seniors next year. We average between 10-17 a year....a new coach with that kind if turnover could be tough.

I never want to sell the young guys short but we all know that next season we will potentially e the most loaded we have ever been. Drink just had to keep the Lamborghini on the road for two seasons- so far so good. Like you said 2021 will be the test.

Best way: somehow convince a P5 conference to take us and have the funds to pay the salaries.

Logically: not much we can do. I don’t mind a new coach every 6 or so years, as long as if we continue high quality hires. If doing well here equals a chance at the next level of CFB, I think we can keep attracting talented coaches.

Not much point in thinking we can keep really good coaches. The money at the P5 schools is just too much. We need to continue to build a PROGRAM that attracts the next good coach and the next good group of players.

Donate, Donate, Donate & buy Season tickets. Once we annually fund Scholarships & faster we pay for facilities, $ can start going towards salaries and Endowments.

As Drink said during Yosef Tour, He is happy to be the tip of the spear, but it’s gonna take all of us pushing.

The tip of spear just made impact. Now what are we gonna do?

It may not be as quick as some think:

Boise State-Transitioned to FCS in 1996 (and I did not research their salary budget for head coach and assistants):
Dick Koetter-3 Seasons (1998-2000) 26-10 Record, played in First Bowl-Humanitarian Bowl in 1999 --left for Arizona State
Dan Hawkins- 5 seasons (2001-2005) 53-11 Left for Colorado
Chris Petersen-- 8 Seasons (2006-2013) 92-12 Left for Washington
Bryan Harsin--6th Season (2014-Present) 58-15

Obviously, Arizona State, Colorado and Washington all wanted someone who could recruit the West Coast. Plus, Boise State has not been affected by the Coaching Transitions
