This. We even have alumni from a certain time period who use that moniker. Some of us need to thicken our skin. Mispronouncing Appalachian by coaches and media personnel, at this point however, is inexcusable.

Read Rick83's post about the media guide.
I read the post. I read most if not all before posting, unlike you in some cases. I'm very familiar with the media guide. I still think we need to get over the Appy aversion. Also, coaches are not media. Nor are fans. The media guide also says not to refer to us as ASU yet we have several chants that use it and it plays a prominent role in NC's Band of Distinction's pregame show.
Appy State is most commonly used by NC State, UNC and ECU fans used condescendingly towards App with a hint of "little brother" direction. Two instances of UNC columnists/bloggers using Appy State and Mounties while downplaying our success occurred just this season. Steve Campbell coached under Hudspeth at UL so his record there and at South Alabama against us is dismal. He knows exactly what he was doing and he did it with malintention, but just not smart of him IMO.
Wow! He really knows how to hurt us. That's likely to intimidate us to the point we won't even show up. It's nice to play with a chip on our shoulder but this is a pretty thin-skinned reaction from some of our fans. The hypocrisy here is beyond the pale. Many of these same fans refer to many of our SBC foes with informal monikers as a means of insulting or belittling them.
You mean like "GumRoot?"

I cringe when one of you guys - or someone on Twitter or the Sun Belt boards - makes an issue of the mispronunciation of Appalachian or the use of Appy. It’s embarrassing.

Sticks and stones, man.

Drink had an interesting point Monday in saying that App has played three times in the last 43 days, now will play at least six, maybe seven, times in the next 43 days. No bye weeks, plus a four- and a five-day turnaround.

If App plays poorly this weekend, even in victory, that won't be good going forward as four of the last five games could be losses if a bad performance is put in. We'll know how good Drink and Co. are at motivating by 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Isn’t kickoff at noon this week?
Yes, the point is that we'll know how well Drinkwitz motivates by the end of the game.

Good lord T-Dog. Is your glass even half full? What do you think might happen that this REALLY good team could just fall of the cliff and drop 4 of 5 games? We appear to be loaded, talented, fast and EXTREMELY motivated. Have you not heard the mantra that Drink preaches constantly?
I expect to win every game. However, everyone in FBS has talent and you could get beat anytime. Drink mentioned tonight that three Top 25 teams on the road this past weekend lost as they had a "bigger" game next week.

Yes, I'm aware of 1-0. I'm also a fan and I have opinions that I like to post.

Ok. Appy comes up often. So does my reply. I get some folks don’t like it. As for it being always used in a condescending tone—just not true. Especially in East Tennessee & Southwest Virginia (our neck of the woods by the way as Boone is 15 minutes from TN and 45 from VA). Folks there use Appy often. The baseball minor league—The Appalachian League—is universally called “The Appy League” by everyone. The Town of Appalachia, Virginia is commonly called Appy. When folks from those parts say “Appy State” most have no clue someone would be offended. I often wonder if the fans of Vandy get as upset as the Appy haters? I have friends from there who often tell me how proud they are of the Appy State team. Folks can decode for themselves the intent of Appy, but automatically dismissing someone for using it is wrong. Go Apps!

Amen....call us what you want and then look at the scoreboard. I will always be a Happy Appy and no one will convince me otherwise. It is better to smile and prove to them who you are than to "WHINE...Please don't call me that name...I don't like it"

The bottom line, if you don’t like Appy (and I don’t much care for it) keep it to yourself. Making a big deal about it is inviting more people to use it when they know it pisses us off. If We found a nickname for GSU that their fans really disliked, would you stop using it when they told us they didn’t like it?

I'm really mad when the Stinksboro, Arky State, Southern Bama and the ULaLa fans call us Appy State. How dare they disrespect us like that!

I have not heard an App State Coach say Stinksboro, Southern Bama and ULaLa? However, I have heard a ULM Head Coach and USA Head Coach say Appy and mispronounced Appalachian in the weekly Sunbelt Press Conference. Just saying...

Exactly! They use it because they WANT a reaction and when a bunch of responses immediately post corrections they get exactly the reaction they wanted. They know the needle found its mark.

Some people just say Appy. It's not always disrespectful. Are we so insecure that we let things like that truly bother us? Some people have pronounced it Appalayshun all their lives. It makes me cringe but I don't automatically think it is disrespectful, especially when it's non-fans or coaches. Coaches have much more to focus on than a how a mispronunciation affects our fan base. I do think, however, that the media should have gotten it by now. I don't think, though, that it's disrespect or intentional, just laziness. We are App State and we're bigger than how people mispronounce and colloquialize our name.

It's more offensive to me that some of our own are ok with Appy.

How great is it that we're in week 9 of football season and this is the #1 thing we have to argue about. Go App!

Really wasn't trying to be an ass. Just a little concerned with people being so easily offended these days and I let it carry over to the board. My apologies.

It’s because for whatever reason, a decent portion of our fanbase has little brother syndrome. I thought we had grown out of it, but no.

On twitter some random dude from like, Tyler College in Texas, made some crack about the AP Poll being trash because App State ans SMU were in it.

It was retweeted and jumped on by TONS of app fans and app accounts. No SMU people, just App. It was so strange.

Who gives a shit what some guy thinks about us? Why do we even feel like we need to defend ourselves!?
