Solid as a Rock at App State
Great read from an outside P5 reporter.
"With Nebraska off this week, we asked our staff members to do something they don’t get to do very often––be a fan. More specifically, just pick a team and try to live-and-die a game for a week...But you can get deep into Boone, North Carolina, before you ever know that one of the 25 best college football teams in the country is playing just over the hill. You can, with no advance planning, park on the street downtown, drink some local beer, browse the mom-and-pop souvenir shops located along an almost-too-perfect main street and walk right up to and into the game."

I just come for what peace I can find | The spirit ever lingers in a song | And the mountain's gonna sing this song for me |Rock me off to sleep

If you’re coming from Tennessee, you probably don’t know there is a football game going on (paraphrasing) until you get into town, but it’s a minor detail in a flattering story.

Hmmm. Pretty good but not sure about the non chilaunt strolling into town as if nothing is going on and just waltzing into the game...
Boone is generally on the verge of exploding during game days.

That was a really well written article. As odd as it may seem to many readers, he is right, you can find parking on King street on game day. I have done it on many of my prior trips to Boone. I can only imagine how refreshing it must have been for a Nebraska fan/writer to watch App State dominate a game the way the Huskers used to do. We really do have a special thing up in the mountains, I hope that magic never changes.

Fantastic article and I love the idea. Glad the writer had a good time visiting Boone - there’s a reason so many of us cherish our time there and get back as often as possible.
Give 'em hell!

Love reading articles from outsiders. Having come to App in ‘03, then making my life here after graduating, I wonder what it looks like to outsiders now. For me it’s home, and in another year and a half I’ll have lived here half my life.

I’m a grad but do not live in NC. My parents and a lot of friends do and they all are taking notice of the undefeated start to the season. Of course they already knew what a special place Boone is too so these articles just confirm what we all know. Loving all the positive press from all corners! Go App!

Re: Solid as a Rock at App State
Being from the Midwest many years ago, it's great to see how a Nebraska guy felt about his trip into Boone and that it is where he wanted to go. I lived in the Kansas City, Missouri area until about 1980 and I can tell you that Nebraska was the football gold standard for many many years as they filled an 80 thousand seat stadium week in and week out with rabid fans from all over the midwest. I never "got it" until I came to Boone when my daughter went to App in the 2000's and we all caught the fever. Mountain air, football culture, pride, passion, purpose, we can't ever take what we have for granted and we all need to be brand ambassadors for Appalachian State. Be Proud Mountaineers and continue to spread the word far and wide.

Just curious if Brandon drove to Boone from Nebraska or if he flew into Tricities and drove over. Wish we had known about his visit. He would have been welcome at our tailgate.
