This ones on the coaches

Unread post by ASU2012 » Thu Oct 31, 2019 10:33 pm

Defense was terrible through 3 quarters, but Drinks inability to adjust on offense cost us this game. Every run was telegraphed. Drink did nothing to avoid it. Started off the 3rd quarter with the exact same gameplan that flopped in the first half. No adjustments made. Finally started passing in the 4th then ran it some more to kill the last good chance we had.

I dunno man. Coaching wasn’t stellar but we just didn’t execute. We made so many individual mistakes it was crazy.

Georgia Southern did and they won.

Can’t completely disagree-play calling was suspect at best. But we flat out failed to execute over and over and over again. That we still had a chance with 40 seconds to go is amazing (and makes it sting just a bit more).
Give 'em hell!

Crazy that we had those chances at the end.
Offense was very lackluster in the first half. Zero plays got the crowd into the game.

I think the offensive play calling wasn’t great. We dropperd too many passes, gave up the 2 long runs in the third against the run of play, and got zero of the 50/50 calls.
Add it all together and it’s a loss. Tough for the players

Coaching definitely deserves some blame. Drink thought he could use a gameplan similar to SoBama but that ended up burning him. Roof’s defense looked lost for 45 minutes.

With that being said Zac missed a lot of throws, we had too many dropped passes to count, we missed numerous tackles, etc. Officiating was also disastrous but that’s not an excuse. If we could have made a 25 yard field goal we probably win in overtime despite all that

On our side: the student section was filled today. The sold seats looked half empty, and the bandwagon fans left in the 3rd. This is bad football culture. I understand people having their reasons to leave, but SO many people left after that second touchdown in the third. Nothing makes me angrier.

We did not execute like we should have but Drink did not call a game that would mask those troubles in the first half. We ran too much when we should have thrown. I kept asking myself that the entire first half. When the defense stacks the box and knows where we are going with the ball it is hard to overcome.

The missed field goal and blowing some assignments on defense killed us as well. You can't miss a field goal inside of 30 yards. Little things like that hurt as much as playcalling when the game is close.

I cannot believe how many missed tackles I saw from the coaching staff.

Coach Drink should give up his play calling responsibilities. He is too conservative. We are playing the #1 rushing defense in the Sun Belt, and he stayed too committed to running the ball. We only moved the ball successfully when we opened it up. Get it to our playmakers.
Guess it’s hard to get up for a ball game when you are ranked and playing for a New Years bowl game. Very disappointed in our coaching staff in this one. We weren’t ready on the defensive side of the ball. Can’t give up 2 TD runs of 55 and 62 yards. Players lost the discipline and responsibilities. We just weren’t prepared. Hang this on Drink.

The offense just came out flat. ZT also had many opportunities to run and chose not to. I know Drink wants him to stay in the pocket, but there were opportunities for 10 and 15 yard scrambles.

Somehow, we had a chance. Our team has heart, but you can’t let GaSo dictate the game for 45 minutes.

The coaches allowed a Halloween costume on the sidelines. Time for the cuteness bull shit to stop and get serious. We were not prepared at all and it shows from the first drive. 3 and out. Why the hell are we running a wildcat play. Pathetic

Maybe it’s me but it seems something has changed offensively. The demeanor of the guys seems different. They seem flat and have for three games now. I saw so many blown up plays for a loss last night it was incredible.Maybe Drinks offense is not a surprise anymore. Idk but I will say this that was about as miserable a game as I’ve sat through and I’ve sat through a lot. East side stands were brutal.

I think the weather was a huge factor. In that kind of wind you HAVE to establish a running game. We lost to a team that was 1-4 for 16 yards passing. If not for the two big TD runs in the 3rd our defense was pretty good (and I know those were the back breakers). Our offense was terrible. We only had 7 points through the quarters.

We didn’t get there until mid-first half. Walking to the stadium we passed students who were already leaving. Pathetic.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I agree with several here who think Drinkwitz is struggling with the tug of war from the HC and OC perspectives. I'm sure it's tough for him, and it's tough to watch sometimes too.

I was telling my buddy the same thing last night. I thought it was Drink's philosophy to feed the hot hand, and we only gave him sips.
