Players and Coaches should call out the fans.

I would love to hear one of our players call out our fans with one line.

Are you speaking of the fans that didn't show? Our students were there early and endured rain, snow and 50 mph wind to watch an uninspired team get owned by a mediocre team. The stands weren't packed but it was a decent crowd considering it was a Thursday night. A large number of our fans took a day and a half off work, traveled over a hundred miles in storms and a tornado watch, sat out in snow and miserable windy conditions to watch a team play 3 minutes in the first half and maybe 8 in the second half. "Calling out" fans would not be a good thing, unless you just want 12,500 for Heroes Day against Texas State.

Are you suggesting a fan should come in and play QB, WR, OL, DL and K while also calling plays offensively and defensively? We got outplayed and outcoached. No excuses.

Yep it was a good crowd that stuck around for the most part until we got behind 24-7. Up until then we were inept. Don’t blame the crowd for coaching and execution. Chaz is right...no excuses.

I do wish they would have let me into the field to see if I could tackle.

And if just one fan stuck around for the entire game, giving his/her all from whistle to whistle, that player would be wrong.

Calling out the fans would show a lack of maturity and confirm lack of focus. What a ridiculous notion.

I see that the intent of this thread topic was to defend the players and coaches by shining a light on an inverted perspective, however I cannot imagine a scenario where players "calling out the fans" for a loss would work out favorably for anybody.

Student section was packed, it was blisteringly cold with the wind, it was Halloween night where people with kids probably took their kids trick-or-treating, it was raining and storming all day, it was sleeting/snowing 40% of the game, and the product on the field didn't give us much to cheer about, but sure. The fact that people stood in that weather from start to finish when they could have just as easily stayed home, dry and warm, to watch it on a nationally televised broadcast should really make this thread null and void. We have some of the best fans in college football, even if we are a bit vocal about our disappointments.

I think we have one of the greatest fan bases around. I also have heard the players talk about that even. We'll show up in mass in Columbia fully supporting the team just like we showed up in Conway last year after the beat down in Statesboro. Late kick-off on a Thursday, cold/windy/wet weather, threat of thunderstorms which caused a 2-hour delay earlier this season (imagine a 2 hour delay on a late Thursday night kick-off), Halloween and many families chose traditional events for their kids, tornado watches covering one of the major routes up the mountain...it was the perfect storm (pun intended) for low attendance.

Students were there loud and proud. Fans, alumni were not in the stands. It was a big game. More should have put on their appropriate winter clothing and been at the game.

As important as App State is to me, I have a life outside of App State football. This is the same stupid bull crap that was discussed to death after a “mediocre” crowd for the Troy game and SBC Championship last year. Quit trying to be the gatekeeper of App State fandom. There were a helluva lot more ppl in the stands Thursday than at most of the away games App has played on Saturday. If a player called out the fans, I’d hope the fans would boo him enthusiastically.

Mid-week games stink...attendance will always suffer for these games when the school is in a "college town" and the alumni base does not live in the same city...If App-GS game was today there would be 28K+ in KBS...that's just reality of the situation.

TV scheduling is part of being a higher profile program. But I hate these weeknight games.
It makes it tough for our fans to travel. Throw in the weather and we had a better crowd than most get on a good weather week night. Heck we still had more in the stands than an average Sun Belt school gets on weekends.

I applaud those that were able to make it and a big thumbs up to the students.

The coaches and players need to worry about their stuff. App fans minus the awesome student section get here when they can. The Thursday night crowd considering the time and elements was excellent. We need to quit harping on this year after year
