For everyone my age, enjoy. For those who were only a gleam in your daddy's eye in 1975 read and learn about the beginning foundations of Mountaineer football. Michigan was not the first big upset.

AP tabbed Price as "the best qb on the east coast" ...but he was never 5'11.

Do you think had we made a bowl that year App would have moved with ECU when they asked that we stay in I-A football and move out of the SoCon.

I have had stories the Peach Bowl had on on their radar and ECU wanted us to move out of the SoCon when they did at the start of the IA/IAA split that the SoCon fought for a few years.

I count myself fortunate to have been there in the middle of the *loud and proud* App section sitting with Jack Branch, Red Hoffman, Blackie Underwood, Reggie Eller and others. Will have that game in my personal Mountaineer Top 5 as long as I live!

Oh, Robbie was probably 5-10 in his hip '70s lift shoes. :D He was tall enuff to get FAA approval for his private pilot's credentials after graduation. He wasn't 5-11, but he was a helluva leader with a huge heart!

The lost to WCU a week later cost us that Peach Bowl bid.

We barely made the required minimum quota of athletic scholarships to be in the SoCon in those first five years or so.

Saw him drink a fifth of whiskey sitting right in front of my wife and me in the stands while he was a spectator at one of the Wake games. Sure could hold his liquor.

Thanks SCAT, fond memories except for the speeding I got on the way home. Local cop, just gave him $ he asked for.

He was listed at 5'9'', but he wasn't quite that tall. I'm 5'10" and he was at least 1 to 1 and 1/2 inches shorter than me.

I was there in 75. Joe Parker was the punter..made Playboy magazine as all American punter. Tangerine bowl officials were at the game.

ECU coach Pat Dye wanted App to leave SoCon when they left. BS told me "we don't want to be like them, they will regret the move up".

Let's say "beginning foundations of Mountaineer football as we know it today." Kidd Brewer's team was pretty good too.

Just messing with you. I know what you were getting at.

It is amazing we have such a long and rich history in football with very few down years and certainly not long spans of down years. Granted we were not playing powerhouses back them in the KBS days but still we were winning and in one year not losing or even being scored on in the regular season.

I graduated from App in 1975 and my first job was in Columbia. Most of my co-workers were USC alums. I asked if they were going to the game and they said not to see Appalachian. My family came down for the game and I was so excited at the end I was jumping up and down. On Monday morning I was telling some of my co-workers about the game and the one who said he couldn't be bothered to watch App told me he had sat several rows behind me and watched all of my celebrations. I couldn't have been happier. This will be my first return to Columbia since I moved away in 1986. Hoping for a similar outcome.

I was there in '75. Moondog Davis was my pal. If I remember correctly, Joe was pre-season All-American punter and started lifting too many weights or something that changed his rhythm and he had a "down" season punting that year.

Then along came Abernathy.
