Our O lines of the last 2 to 3 years have done really well against G5 teams. We’ve struggled to get “push” more in conference. I was really impressed with our strength and conditioning program over the past few years. I hope it doesn’t fall off. I think we can play with the smaller guys but they have to be in great shape.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:07 amI used to think our offensive line guys were fine but it’s obvious now that we are in the new neighborhood (top 25) that we have to step up this aspect. Gotta get a little bigger. The physical 300 lb dudes are a must. The 6’2” 275 guys are good G5 types but that won’t cut it against the Wisconsin’s of the football world.bcoach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 8:58 pmIf coach wants our qb to stand in the pocket our ol is going to need more than 10lbs a manYosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 10:49 amI think the size of our DEs is fine but it would be nice to have a big NG on D. I would definitely like to see our OL get bigger by about 10 lbs per man, but I think that will happen. I wouldn't want to change the emphasis on athleticism on either side of the ball.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 10:44 amI really don't think we'll look to get much bigger on the DL, at least at the expense of explosiveness. UNC and SC (and ULL for that matter) had massive OLs, but we've been able to use that against them with our quickness.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 7:34 amHard to imagine us not having a stellar recruiting class. We really have it going on. Starting to see more of the 6’3” 230 lb type linebackers. Left tackle will be the huge position on offense. Looks like we are fairly solid at DB, linebacker and DE. Need to get bigger in the trenches. Those big dairy farm boys in Wisconsin will be a load next year.

It has been fine but if coach wants our qb to stand in the pocket we are going to need some size. Our qb s have not been pocket passers up to this point. That is the difference.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:55 amOur OL is fine for what we face week in and week out in our conference. Our OL has not been a problem with the likes of Tenn, PSU of SoCar. We aren’t going to get the same type of 300+ lineman that P5s are going to get. I will take 10 Noah Hannons all day long.

Re: 2020 Defense
200 yards of offense and the longest drive of the game was 39 yards. That’s actually quite bad, we just won because our defense destroyed them for 55 minutes AND scored a TD.
That said, I’m not sure it automatically follows that “get bigger” is the simple solution.

Re: 2020 Defense
The offense in deigned to get the ball out fast. Coach doesn’t want him standing back in the pocket. No coach does. And if so, you are talking about pass pro which required length, not gerth.bcoach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 10:56 amIt has been fine but if coach wants our qb to stand in the pocket we are going to need some size. Re: 2020 Defense
I took the comment as meaning that we need to protect the QB when back to pass. Not necessarily an effective running game.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 11:15 am200 yards of offense and the longest drive of the game was 39 yards. Re: 2020 Defense
I was talking to a South Carolina fan last Saturday morning in the hotel lobby. We were discussing our teams’ respective pluses and minuses, and I was offering up my typical sandbagging baloney. I told my new acquaintance that our center was 260 pounds dripping wet. The Gamecocks fan’s eyes kinda sparkled as if his team had just won. I didn’t tell him that our center, as well as the rest of our offensive line, was going to have a good night against his team. But I was confident it would. App has proven for decades that offensive line measurables are highly overrated.
