He's a sensationalist, in that he does/says things to get a reaction. I would not at all be surprised if he intentionally mispronounced Appalachian on purpose, simply to get a rise. I liked him on SportsCenter in the 90s but he has become too much of a sensationalist and his politics are so messed up. I don't watch him anymore either.
