Ill say this:

We should all be very prepared for App to be leapfrogged by:

Virginia Tech (8-3)
Virginia (8-3)
Texas A&M (7-4)
Wake Forest (8-3)

All won.

If you think the committee is gonna send an unranked team to the ACC Championship to play Clemson, you’re on acid.

I’m preparing myself for the reality that we may not even be ranked, at 10-1. Hope I’m wrong.
My guess is that we remain #24 or drop to #25. Nobody just ahead of us lost. Cincy could slide a spot or two and probably should. I don't think any G5 team is head and shoulders above the rest. That NY6 spot is still completely up for grabs with 3 teams leading the way - Cincy, Boise St, and Memphis.

Your fear is why I said before that we need statement wins. If we want to move up in the CFP we need to win big next week and then ULL we just need to win because they are getting some respect.

A&M got beat today but I think VT moves in to #25. I would not rank UVA or Wake Forest yet but I would say whoever wins the UVA vs VT game will be ranked for sure. A 9-3 ACC team definitely deserves it.

Here is my guess at the CFP Top 25 and keep in mind I could see Navy sneak in after their win over SMU.

Rank Team Record Result Last Week
1 LSU (11-0) 56-20 W vs Arkansas 1
2 Ohio State (11-0) 28-17 W vs #8 Penn State 2

Only 13 FBS teams have at least 10 wins and after the final regular season games are played there can only be 12 with at least 11- assuming we take care of business. Are we a top 25 team? Hell yes we are. Top 10? Hell no. Between 15 and 20? Maybe. Going 11-1 in a season is really hard no matter your conference, your opponents or your team. We have a bunch of delusional guys who get really carried away with our success and we have a bunch of morons who bash the coaches when we don’t Ohio State steamroll every opponent. At the end of the day a win is a win. If some committee thinks we aren’t worthy because we haven’t smacked every team we have played by 50 points well that’s beyond our control. For me this team has gone beyond by expectations. I fully thought we could run the table but realistically figured on at least one loss along the way. I’ve been of the opinion that as long as we are in the top 25 that puts us in the top 20 percentile among the best level of college football and that’s damn good.

Possibly on VT, no way on Wake. Maybe UVA, but I think Navy is more likely.

The VT-UVA winner will play Clemson and that team will be ranked at 9-3, so that issue will resolve itself.

This has me thinking; maybe we could set up a simple website, kind of like did duke win.com. Isappranked.com.

I also think our CFP ranking is tenuous. As a silver lining, I’ll think of it this way: barring an unexpected jump, our NY6 chances are on life support whether we’re ranked or not based on yesterday’s results.

However, since the CFP doesn’t issue a postseason poll, for final rankings the importance shifts back to AP and coaches. We’re still in good shape there and should continue to inch higher as long as we win.

So we may not get the Cotton Bowl, but we still have a great chance to finish in at least the top 20 if we keep winning.

Yes at this point we will need a miracle for the Cotton Bowl.

I’m just hoping for a strong victory against Troy so we can host the Sunbelt Championship again. The weather has absolutely ruined our home slate this year and I’m hopeful we get one big game in Boone with optimal conditions.

Exactly,

Since 2001, in the Sun Belt the following teams have notched 10-Win Seasons
App State 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019
Troy 2016, 2017, 2018
Arkansas State 2011, 2012
Georgia Southern 2018
MTSU 2009

and Louisiana has 9 wins this year.

SMU is trying to notch their first 10 win Season since 1984

Last year, Utah State (which climbed as high as #14) didn't beat a P5, snuck by a 3-win Colorado State Team in the next to the last regular season game and finished 11-2 and ranked #22 in the AP Poll . (their losses were to Michigan State and Boise State)

In 2017, USF finished 10-2, beat one P5 (Illinois which finished 2-10), beat a second P5 in a Bowl Game (Texas Tech 6-7), did not make their Conference Championship Game, squeaked by a 2-Win Tulsa Team 27-20 in the next to last game of the regular season and finished ranked #21.

We're a Top 25 Football Team!

It think it depends on whose top 25 you are referencing. If we remain in the CFP rankings, I would suspect it would be #25. I fully expect VT to jump in and pass us. The way they have played lately, I would have little argument with that.

There are just too many variables for the Cotton Bowl to work out. All we can do is keep winning and that would likely ensure that we finish the season ranked. If that happens, then we may start the season ranked.

With the news on Sutton I feel like the committee probably won't rank us or we will at least drop to 25. I hope we stay but without our best player and the one guy who can dominate a P5 secondary I feel like we probably should not be ranked.

I won't pretend that I know what the CFP committee will do, but dropping a team out of the top 25 because they lost a player when they still won by three touchdowns would be a terrible decision. Especially since Alabama was not similarly punished after losing Tua.

I disagree. Yes, it's a big loss and I hate to see it. But, it's a team game. Our Defense is ranked 19th in Total Defense. We are Top 10 in Turnover Margin. We are #11 in Scoring Offense (and yes, Sutton is part of that with 7 TD's, but we've scored 56 Offensive TD's this year. Our Special Teams have been Special this year. Other teams are not at 100%. We've lost ONE Game by 3 Points this year.
We took care of business yesterday, and the week before, and the week before. The outcome was never really in doubt, we just didn't put them away in the first half like some would have preferred and we gave up one really stupid TD.
If we deserve to slide out, so do the other teams who merely took care of business this week.

Still #22 in Coaches Poll. OK State jumped us.

Here’s the counterpoint on VT: Have they played better than us lately? Probably so. But the CFP is supposed to be based on the full body of work. And VT’s full body of work includes:

- Two FCS wins, including by 7 over Furman.
- Another OOC win over 1-10 ODU.
- A 45-10 home loss to 4-7 Duke.

VT has made a huge turnaround, but those results don’t disappear just because they’re winning now.

I'm really glad our fans don't get to vote on the top 25 because outsiders have put us in the Coaches and AP once again, as well as CBS.
Hopefully, the CFP committee will go along which I believe they will.

Other thing I’ll say is, while we didn’t look very good yesterday, again on the full body of work point: Are you really going to drop a 10-1 team at least two spots following a 22-point win in crappy weather, when the team right behind us lost and no other candidates to be ranked had any huge statement wins?

Like if A&M had beaten Georgia, sure. But nothing like that happened.
