Miller Hill Expansion/Re-Grade Done In Time For 2020 Season!

Unread post by HkyMtneer » Sun Nov 24, 2019 4:49 pm

I don't think it has been mentioned, but in listening back to DG's pre-game radio interview from yesterday, he casually dropped that the day after the Luke Combs concert in May the track and current FieldTurf begins to come up! He informed that Miller Hill will indeed be pulled in closer to the endzone (up to the current T&F box behind the South Endzone uprights) and resloped...creating the expanded plaza area up top, all the way back to the current concourse. Obviously, we've all known that this was coming but this is the first time I've "officially" heard DG say it would be done in time for 2020. It almost sounded as if the logistics from the installation of the new FieldTurf was one of the impetuses for making the re-grade happen this quickly.

Exciting to hear in official terms this is happening and get a timeline. I was standing in the south end zone yesterday trying to picture a finished NEZ complex, now with this it'll feel like a completely different stadium.

This is great. I didn't think regrading the hill was a for sure thing. I think for those who don't like the hill (this includes myself), the main issue is the distance from the field...this will solve that, should make everyone happy (almost), and make our beautiful stadium even more picturesque.

I believe the MMB is responsible for this! Our collective intuitive minds invaded the tin foil covering of App bureaucrats heads (except for DG) who is one of us.

That’s great news, it should be covered in field turf.

If feasible, I would love to see a tunnel that would have the players enter the field in the middle of the south end zone vs the corner.

I discussed that with him at the Raleigh Marriott before UNC game and he said he really wanted to get it done.

Is the current home entrance still going to switch to the away teams?

Do hope they can figure a way to keep it usable for wet games. Turf or something else.

Turf would be great. There are some softer, golf course rough type turfs out there. I could see ropes, chains or to lead team to roped off area under scoreboard for game entry. Use existing for warmups, halftime, etc. could have fans on both sides on broader concourse style area to the video board.

Personally, I’d like to see a hand-hewn log cabin there with a front porch. Aka yosefs cabin. Perhaps a beer garden in front. I’m serious. Basically like the Tampa Bay Bucs ship

I love the idea of regrading Miller Hill but unfortunately the rendering above isn’t accurate. In my opinion, fans are still going to be positioned way too far from the playing field. It seems to me we’re missing an opportunity to create something really special in the south end zone.

Yes, App is supposed to be in new locker rooms in the new Death Star field house.

Bingo. Gillin tweeted that the hill would only be moved forward to the black box that is shown in the above photo. That’s much less than the area in green shown above. I agree with Charlie - only moving the hill forward to the black box is so incremental that it doesn’t even seem worth it. We have a chance to get the fans right on top of the field and really make KBS something special and I wish we’d take it.

Maybe it's not everything we'd hope for, but still better than what it is now.

Super excited to see this come to fruition. Would love for it to simulate Clemson's hill.

I doubt they'll turf it, but that would be great. Bring it closer, make it less steep. Great progress!

We continue to go half way with each project. But we only have ourselves to blame due to the lack of funds.

I know we'd all love to have a perfectly symmetrical, 40k seat stadium with the newest and best amenities, but moving the hill 40-50 feet closer to the field, while creating a ton of usable space up top, will enhance the gameday experience for those who chose to sit there. It also leaves overflow space for games when needed, allows for expansion when needed, and may even help drive the expansion discussion (if it removes a bit of space that would normally be used to cram more spectators in - not sure if this will be the case).

I'm glad to see this is being done.
Give 'em hell!
