From Appstatesports:
Troy's defensive coordinator, Brandon Hall, was Arkansas State's safeties coach when Drinkwitz coached the Red Wolves' running backs in 2012. Under Hall, Troy has created problems for opposing passers by tallying 10 interceptions (tied for the Sun Belt lead) and 30 sacks (first in the Sun Belt, 28th nationally).
Troy linebacker Carlton Martial ranks seventh nationally with 113 tackles (more than twice as many as the team's No. 2 tackler) and is sixth with 16.5 tackles for loss. He also has three interceptions, one fewer than the team-leading total from cornerback Will Sunderland.

Points given up in their last 5 games. No excuses.

How does a team lead the league in sacks and interceptions and still give up that many points?

By allowing 426 yards on defense on average for every game. They are decent against the run, but give up 272 per game on passing defense.
Against common opponents (USA, GSU, CC, GS, TSU, and LL) they are 3-3 and score 37 points while giving up 35.

So I would imagine with Sutton’s injury they will load the box and see if we can still throw the ball. We all know we still have a very good group of receivers but I think both Troy and ULL will want to test that for themselves. Not trying to skip ahead a game but I see ULL loading the box and putting a spy on Zac. He killed them last time with his legs. I got a felling he’ll need to beat them on 12/7 with his arm. But for now, beat Troy!!!

Lot of college defenses now figure they can’t stop offenses consistently so they go for the splash plays. A-State always fits that model, sounds like Troy must too.

They spied Evans last time.

I expect Drink to give them the look they are expecting and hitting them on the opposite side. If you're going to sell out for picks and sacks against us we have the schemes and players to burn you all day and then ice it with those methodical demoralizing 7 minute drives.

I've watched Troy play several games now..... They suck...period.... I was ashamed I wasted my time watching their games.

Their fans say if you can throw you will have an easy day. We need to cut back on the drops and have that new deep threat step up.

I predict our tight ends get a lot of 10-15 yard looks.

Without Reed might be slim pickings at TE. I guessing the less known WRs have a good day.
Hopefully Hennigan returns to his old ways as well.

It’s Virgils time to step up...... Pearson is supposed to be the better pass catching tight end as well.

Isn’t it amazing the difference in Troy and us after the coaching change? They sank like a rock while we improved if anything.

Drinkwitz wants Roof's defense to be like that (he's said yards is a meaningless stat until the red zone), but I think he's OK with all the three and outs getting his offense the ball.

The only thing scary about their D is the thought of us scoring less than 40.

Spy Thomas with a LB and now you have one on one coverage with ASU's receivers,
you also compromise your run defense with a LB now watching Thomas instead of covering a gap. Pick your poison, Troy will play it safe load the box and make ASU beat them with the pass. UL same thing as last time....

Could happen without Sutton.
