Totally agree with the exposure part. The lead up, pomp and circumstance would be tremendous for us. And hey, it would literally be house money. Massive blowout would be the expectation so the absolute worst case is you do what everyone expects. Play a close game or do the absolute impossible and win, and it would really help power us forward.CornCobPipes wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 10:35 pmTrue that! Never thought about this scenario even as farfetched as it is currently.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2019 10:30 pmWith Alabama almost guaranteed to miss the CFP, there’s a decent chance they’ll end up in the Cotton Bowl. Now I’m not gonna sit here and say I wouldn’t still hope for the best and be delighted with the bid...
But we may just dodge a national audience embarrassment. I know that’s not gonna be a popular opinion, but yeah. Going to the Cotton Bowl and playing a 2 loss Notre Dame team close is one thing. But I’m pretty comfortable admitting Alabama would mop the floor with us, which would suck.
However, and I agree with you in this scenario....look at the bright side of the exposure playing Bama in a bowl game......not gonna happen but scary and funny to think about.
It would be a pity for any G5 to play Bama.
But yeah, worst case matchup for G5 teams an easy way for the P5’s to pull an “I told you so” after Bama drops 50+ on Memphis or Boise.
Getting to the Cotton Bowl would be a great achievement, but personally it would lose some of its luster if we got embarrassed.
