Rankings December 1
I hate to say it but I called it. UVa beat #25 VaTech and jumped us to #20 while we did moved up to #21. The CFP wants ranked P5 teams ahead of G5's and it's just that d**n simple.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

What rankings are you looking at? AP comes out at 2 today and CFP comes out on Tuesday so whatever rankings you’re looking at don’t really hold any weight.

Re: Rankings December 1
Wouldn’t surprise me if they did jump us, they’re ACC Coastal champs (like it or not). The playoff committee will do whatever it takes to justify keeping Clemson in the playoff and allowing them to steamroll a “ranked” team in the ACC Championship will help them sleep at night.
It wouldn’t matter who Clemson beat in the ACC in my opinion, but that will be their rationale as flawed as it may be.
On another note, I know it’s a pipe dream, but I’d love to see us jump Boise after they struggled with a 4 win Colorado State and we killed a 5 win Troy.

AP and CFP are the only ones that anyone actually follows. We should be 20 in the AP. The CFP is the crapshoot, I could us moving up all the way to 20, but likely landing at 22.

Re: Rankings December 1
I don't see that happening. Of all of the Top 4 teams, Clemson has felt disrespected the most, and carries a huge chip on their shoulder. That added to the fact that Clemson has the experience of being in these type of games I give them the edge.

I have no issue if UVA came in at 20, they are 9-3 in ACC, coastal champs and have no bad losses.
Also, I expect K-state to make an appearance 8-4 Big 12 team with win over OK and really only one avg/bad loss at home to WVU.
Very interested to see where Cincy is ranked in AP later today

Unfortunately Sagarin, USA Today, CBS, Coaches, ESPN power rankings and guy in his basement and the many other polls mean nothing at this point. All opinions. Only the CFP is the bottom line now.

UVA deserves to be ranked. I don't see AP or Coaches out yet. Nothing but the CFP really matters but if you want to look at any others the AP and Coaches would be 2nd and 3rd. Sagarin has us at 28 and Massey has us at 20. They are the two best computer rankings.
I predict we will be 20-21 in AP and Coaches and 21-22 in the CFP. Outside shot at 20 but I would not be shocked if USC stays ahead of us and UVA passes us.

Re: Rankings December 1
AP is an awful poll and I never understood why people put stock in it. Look at some of the teams receiving votes. I mean there are like 10-11 G5 teams who get votes some weeks. Does anyone really think 10-11 G5 teams are among the top 25 programs in the country? Nope.
I'm glad the CFP is around now because it is the best. I know there are minor things we could pick at but they truly look at resume and don't just slot teams. They try to weight teams based on who they play and how good they look doing it. To be fair, our schedule is way weaker than Clemson and there is a ceiling for us. We will probably be 21-22 in the CFP this week with a ceiling of about 19-20 if we win the SBC title.
Like I said before, we need teams to lose for us to move up. Our schedule does not give us a win that voters will be impressed with. For us to move up 2-3 spots we need a lot of losses. We got that this week.

Regardless of your opinion, people pay attention to the AP poll, which was my point.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:00 pmAP is an awful poll and I never understood why people put stock in it. And also, you’re misinterpreting how the voting is aggregated if the bolded above is your thought process.
But your point remains, the CFP is largely a more accurate poll.

The bolder part is also why it’s not accurate to say a team is ranked 26th in the poll. It is first among others receiving votes, but the numbers stop after 25.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:16 pmRegardless of your opinion, people pay attention to the AP poll, which was my point.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:00 pmAP is an awful poll and I never understood why people put stock in it. Re: Rankings December 1
Fans and TV networks pay attention to the AP but the only reason they do that is because their people or the beat writers at schools are the ones voting for it. If the writers themselves did not vote in it they would not put the same stock in it. If they did not write about it the fans would not care either. It does not change that the poll is bad. I still wish they would not do a poll until November.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:16 pmRegardless of your opinion, people pay attention to the AP poll, which was my point.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 12:00 pmAP is an awful poll and I never understood why people put stock in it. The purpose of the poll is suppose to be who do you think are the top 25 teams in the country. Who do you think is better than who. I'm sorry but anyone who thinks ULL, Temple, SDSU, etc. would beat UVA, VT, Texas A&M, etc. should have their vote revoked. Simple as that. Many voters are looking at a team's record and that is just not the way to do it.
Here is what I find funny about the perception of the top AAC teams and App State. We have a lot of players on our team now who had offers from Memphis, Cincy, Temple, Tulane, etc. yet we are not as good as them.
