He would be the riskiest hire of the lot. The team has done what we knew it could unless coaching screwed it up. To his credit he didn’t , but he certainly has not built a program , or rebuilt one. If an AD taps him they are really rolling the dice.
Exactly what I have been thinking. I love Drink and think he has done a good job but those on the inside expected a great season. If I'm a P5 AD I would want to see his recruiting and performance in 2020 and 2021 before I would take the chance. I'm not doubting he can do it but just saying when you pay someone millions you need to know for sure they are capable and not take a risk.
That is exactly what the Louisville AD did.
It is the smart way to go. I have no doubt Louisville will do well under him. I'm not sure if he will be able to surpass Clemson in the next 3-5 years but I think he will win 7-10 games a year for sure. At the very least I feel like he will have a winning team and turn recruiting around enough to where he can at least compete with anyone in the ACC.

I think it’s important to remember that 99% of the people writing and tweeting about which coach is going where are completely full of shit. While it is unnerving to hear Drink’s name tossed around, I trust a magic eight ball as much as I do the stuff I’m seeing online. I won’t sweat until something is official.

Exactly. It is smart to just ignore it for the time being. Until an article naming that a certain coach is set to become head coach I don't sweat it either.

Are we looking at a coaching winner-take-all tomorrow with Drink and Napier? Is Arkansas in waiting, ready to call the winner 5 minutes after the final snap? If these are truly the two top candidates, I can’t see Ark announcing that they are excited to be going with the losing coach.
Hoping they choose their assistant, or anybody else, but hey, we will persevere regardless.

I haven’t seen Napier name mentioned hardly at all at Arkansas, but Drinks name is all over it. I’m hoping it is like our search last year. Several names out there, but the one getting the job isn’t on the radar. Would be a shame if we by some chance got in the Belk bowl and had an interim HC

If Kiffin to Ole Miss does happen, Harsin from Boise State is next in line. Drink's name is definitely on the list (and one of two presented to the BOT so far), but I highly doubt the AD pulls the trigger on him. They just fired a coach with more experience than Drink that was an up and comer. The fan base will not be happy without a big name. And the AD could be on his way out if it's not a big name.

That said, if it is Harsin, you would have to expect Drink to be near top of the list at Boise.

I am also hearing rumors of Matt Rhule potentially to Arkansas. I have a hard time believing it, but weirder things have happened during coach searches. Jeff Monken is another coach I am hearing as mutual interest.

If this all comes to play, I'm hoping that Shawn Clark is named interim HC and has a legit chance at the job. Shawn is App through and through and a heck of a coach.

Arkansas are idiots ... that being said I want Clark. Clark deserves a shot and at this point we need some continuity. Maybe keep Link?

Losing Drink won’t hurt that bad because we can get a good coach with his buyout. However losing a year of recruiting is going to hurt. It is what it is. Yes I know there are bigger issues but it pisses me off. It could be worse we could be GASo alums.

I’m not buying in yet...But, if all this comes to fruition, we might be lucky to keep anybody (Clark included).

The thing I fear is exactly this. Drink will clean house. He brought in his whole group pretty much. Clark might stay and possibly Watts (mainly because drink will leave him) but outside that, we’re scrambling.

Drink also would pull recruits. He has no app ties and came in and left ASAP. Think willie fritz

Lastly, if Clark were named I’d fear he doesn’t have the ties to bring in an A+ staff.

I’m sorry, but what do you mean we will lose a year of recruiting? Sound a bit fatalistic seeing as how there is no basis to support your assertion.

I doubt the recruits we have are SEC caliber.

Mack Brown left after a year and we got Sparky...I still say if I’m DG I’m pissed beyond measure. I’m sure he expected at least 2 years outta Drink.
