Future non conference schedules
We’ve done a good job scheduling some P5’s and building rivalries. Maybe it’s time to focus on an AAC team for each year and drop the Gardner Webb’s, Morgan State’s, ETSU’s for awhile. I understand the why’s, but we’re already fighting a perception of weak schedules. Why not replace aGardner Webb in the future with an AAC or another CUSA? I’d rather fight the perception than host a gimme.

Wisconsin and Wake will be tougher next year to pull off than UNC and USC this year.
I don't like having the Gardener types on our schedule either.

I’m with you, If we can get any of the top AAC teams on the schedule I would be willing to drop a P5 game. The perception that the AAC teams are better than us kept us out of the Cotton Bowl. Let’s get them on the schedule and find out who’s best. Let’s play the games.Kafarmer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 2:57 pmWe’ve done a good job scheduling some P5’s and building rivalries. Re: Future non conference schedules
In the end only one AAC team was ranked higher than App. Our biggest gripe might have been being ranked behind Boise if one looks at some of the metrics. I think it fair to say that Memphis was the best G5 team this year and not just based on perception. The margin isn't that great, the main difference being strength of schedule.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 4:48 pmI’m with you, If we can get any of the top AAC teams on the schedule I would be willing to drop a P5 game. Re: Future non conference schedules
The reason that FBS schools schedule FCS games is due to bowl eligibility. The FBS school can count one FCS win against the needed total of six victories to become bowl eligible. Hence, in most cases (2007 withstanding), most teams are hedging their bets that they will only need 5 FBS wins to become bowl eligible. It also offers G5's a guaranteed home game. Replacing this game with an AAC school would most likely require a home and home contract and we could possibly only have 5 home games at the Rock in a season.Kafarmer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 2:57 pmWe’ve done a good job scheduling some P5’s and building rivalries. Some FBS schools actually schedule two FCS games. Florida had two in 2018 (Charleston Southern
and Idaho) due to Idaho dropping down. However, this year they had two more (Tennessee-Martin and Towson)

On the other hand, if we beat Wisconsin, we are suddenly a top 20 program in week 2.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:00 pmWisconsin and Wake will be tougher next year to pull off than UNC and USC this year.

Not the worlds easiest task, but yeah.

Wisconsin and maybe even Wake could both be ranked when we play them. No one would be able to question road wins vs ranked P5. Even Utah got penalized for no wins vs top 25 and a loss to ranked Oregon.

11-1 with a close loss to a top ten Badger team might be enough for NY6. But first #beatuab , then #beatmorganstate
