One more thing. If those boys want Clark so bad just imagine how hard they will play for him in the bowl game to make him look good. I don't expect a close game!

Re: App State players are speaking out on Twitter
Coaches are a rare breed. Most of them want to coach for the biggest and best school available. The money is insane!!! You have to go when the going is good and Drink's time to go was NOW. I wish him the best and hope that DG will hire another shining star (Shawn Clark).
Until we can increase our number of season ticket holders and our corporate sponsorship, this will be our lot...one or two great years then re-hire. Maybe hiring from within will work but no guarantees.

Re: App State players are speaking out on Twitter
Let me start off by saying that I am grateful Drink led us to what is likely the greatest season in App State history. I wish he and his family well. With that in mind, the best thing for App would be for him to go to Mizzou and completely bomb. Let the SECs and the ACCs of the world think App is a culture and system and not coaching staff. That way they leave our next hire alone.
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

He was co-offensive coordinator/run game coordinator under Satt, so similar to that.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 6:24 pmShawn Clark is an O-line coach. Does anyone have any idea what his offensive philosophy is? High power -- ball control -- power I (doubtful, just asking)? I'd love for it to be coach Clark, but I don't know his competency to be a head coach. Hire whoever gives us the best chance to win.
Also was OC during last year's NoLa bowl beat down of MTSU so he's not afraid to throw it either.

Drink’s been playing Madden ‘20 with Sat’s custom team he built, playbook and all...
I’d reference the NCAA football game, but that’s a sore subject.

You sorta made my point. The guy they hired was tied to Boisecitroknight wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 6:03 pmWhen Petersen left Boise they hired one of their former players who had spent time under him but he wasn't a direct internal hire per say. He had been gone from Boise 3 years, 2 as OC at Texas and one as HC at Arkansas State. They didn't stick with a current coach as is usually the emotional pull for players. If a program wants the best, you have to always look at all options because it's not guaranteed one of the current assistant coaches can truly be the guy.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 5:15 pmcitroknight wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 5:01 pmClark very well could be the guy, but it's always good to interview external candidates and actually reach that conclusion. Emotional hires of an existing coach or long time assistant who seems is owed a big break can detail a programs momentum.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 3:59 pmSigning day is 12/18, I’ll in on Clark. His resume includes 7 years as an assistant at FBS programs including OC/AHC and then four at App.
We could go after another P5 OC or DC or FCS HC, but they would be short term rental with the talent we have coming back.
As opposed to the flavor of the week and going through this every year? I get your point but this completely sums up why the 36 year old ladder climber is not really good for a program like ours. We’ve become who we’ve become by having loyalty and stability. Drink fell into a Golden situation to further his career. He got lucky. Personally I think Missouri is moronic to pay him that amount of money with basically no established record. No one even knows if he can recruit yet or not, but I digress. We can’t afford for this to become the norm. Boise hires from within so their culture stays consistent. We’d be wise to do the same and not chase the shiny red ball of candidates

Re: App State players are speaking out on Twitter
The first thing I did when It became apparent that Drink was leaving was to look at how Boise had been able to sustain success as a G5 team. The thing that immediately stood out was coaches staying 4,5,6 years. During that time their worst season was 8 and 4. Boise is the G5 model for sustained success. These next hot thing coaches like Drink are poison for programs like App.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 7:31 pmYou sorta made my point. Shawn Elliott at GA St is a former O-Line coach also. I think he has proven head Coach worthy so far. Get the right staff around you and the players to respect you, he will do fine.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 6:24 pmShawn Clark is an O-line coach. Sorry, i do not want Shawn Elliott also, i was using him as an example of a O-Line coach becoming a head coach down the line. My mistake! # Hire ShawnClark

Pass. Hard pass. ECU was in a similar position as us, as they were on the rise, and Ruffin couldn’t quite take them to the next level. I’d prefer trying another avenue before reaching out to him...Woodstovegang wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 9:18 pmJust a thought Shawn Clark asst head coach, Ruffin Horne McNeill Jr, HCappstatealum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 8:52 pmHe has burnt too many bridges here. Re: App State players are speaking out on Twitter
If it's Mark Pitts the OL, I have the scoop from the UCF side. He was processed out/pushed out to make room for a higher rated Juco guy. Of course, schools tell the recruit discreetly so they can announce on their own terms that they "decommitted" rather than add insult to injury.

Something I saw late in the game made me question Drink being successful at App long term. They had a close shot of Zac looking to the sideline for the play call. As soon as he got the signal I saw him shake his head like here we go again. Something minute and maybe off base for this thread just something I did notice. Did anyone else see that?
I caught it too and I think it revealed a lot about the relationship between Zac and Drink. All season I've noticed Zac had a blank and ignoring look on his face when Drink talks to him on the sideline. He rarely looked Drink in the eye or showed any enthusiasm. Zac appears to be quieter and less demonstrative than his team mates but I think this is more than that.
