Re: Who stays, who goes?
I think it's a solid hire. His teams score around 30 points/game. He knows the region and has a wealth of experience and has been under a lot of highly regarded coaches.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Drink: they are loaded with talent, don’t screw up for 1 year then... PROFIT!
Re: Who stays, who goes?
App has had at least one 1000 yard running back every season (excluding the 2 transition seasons) for the last 20 years. A pass crazy OC is not what we need. A 60-40 run to pass mix is App's signature. That should continue.
Petersen was Scottie Montgomery's (9-26 record) OC at ECU and engineered one of the worst offenses in Pirate history.....averaging an anemic 127 yards RUSHING per game.....that's a stain you can't outlive.
Unfortunate we can't afford to buy out Shane Montgomery's (JMU) contract.....

His offenses at La Tech averaged 366 and 400 ypp respectively. His ECU offenses avg. 486, 414, and 425. Not sure where your 127 per came from.appwolf wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 10:38 pmApp has had at least one 1000 yard running back every season (excluding the 2 transition seasons) for the last 20 years. That was supposed to be rushing yards per game......my bad (or whatever you youngsters say)....that's 127 RUSHING YARDS PER GAMEAppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 11:23 pmHis offenses at La Tech averaged 366 and 400 ypp respectively. Re: Who stays, who goes?
I have no doubt that he will mold his style of play calling to our scheme. I don’t foresee a change in our identity. Clark went after guys that were willing to work with what we do. All is well.appwolf wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 11:44 pmThat was supposed to be rushing yards per game......my bad (or whatever you youngsters say)....that's 127 RUSHING YARDS PER GAMEAppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 11:23 pmHis offenses at La Tech averaged 366 and 400 ypp respectively. Re: Who stays, who goes?
I don’t foresee a change either, nor do i want to. But i watched plenty of ECU during Peterson’s time there and that offense was night and day from what we do. I’m not saying i think it’s a dumpster fire of a hire but it’s going to take some serious molding to get him on the same page. It is interesting that this is who Clark landed on after hearing so much about him wanting to hire a guy who could continue on with Satt/Drinkwitz style of offense.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 9:29 amI have no doubt that he will mold his style of play calling to our scheme. Re: Who stays, who goes?
If the only place he coached was ECU then there might cause for concern but he has been a lot of places with different outcomes and apparently styles. In the end, its the HC who determines what the offense looks like.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 10:20 amI don’t foresee a change either, nor do i want to. Reaching for reasons to not like the hire, in my opinion. Points are points. I don't care if we get them through the air or on the ground.appwolf wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 10:38 pmApp has had at least one 1000 yard running back every season (excluding the 2 transition seasons) for the last 20 years. Re: Who stays, who goes?
Good lord with the offensive weapons available next year we can run heavy or pass heavy. We are loaded at back and at receiver. Ain’t no coordinators gonna mess it up

Re: Who stays, who goes?
And the athletes you have to work with. Amazed at how many act like coaching is just moving chess pieces on a board. Something about Jimmy’s and Joe’s beating X’s & O’s. I’m willing to bet that Scotty Mo’s talent was the bigger issue.hapapp wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 12:25 pmIf the only place he coached was ECU then there might cause for concern but he has been a lot of places with different outcomes and apparently styles. Re: Who stays, who goes?
Official announcement.
So still lacking RB, safeties, OL, and assignment of QB coach and Special teams, assuming they are already on staff and will split duties.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Petersen will probably coach QBs. He will have some buy in on the RB and OL, but they have probably been tabbed.
Re: Who stays, who goes?
Well....Petersen is official and I'm not pleased. His heyday was in the 90's at Marshall and he hasn't had much to brag about since '99.....only 3 seasons out of the last 20. He did coach Chad Pennington at Marshall.....Petersen's last 2 seasons there.....ancient history in the Football world.
As I stated before his rushing attack at ECU averaged 127 yards per game......that is NOT the Mountaineer Football we have enjoyed over the last 37 years.
Since Mike Working was fired following the 1982 season Appalachian has had to suffer thru a grand total of 3 losing seasons....one each by Sparky, Coach Moore and Coach Satterfield.
...there must be some issue with the salary budget.
I could go on about my disappointment but instead I'll just hope for the best......GoApp !!

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Jeez, some folks really do just LOOK for reasons to complain. Obviously, Coach Clark sees something he likes in Peterson and he definitely has a ton of experience. I couldn't care less what he did at ECU during their dumpster fire years. The problems at ECU went FAR beyond anything a coordinator could fix. In his various roles, he has excelled in both the passing game and the running game. That shows versatility which is exactly what we need. He is going to have no problem adapting to the App offense and I have no problem with him tweaking a few things here and there. Shawn Clark will oversee the integrity of the transition and the fit of the schemes. I trust him so I'm fine with this hire. Welcome to God's Country, Coach Peterson!

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Exactly. Do some of you complainer guys actually comprehend the salary limitations for our staff? Who do you think we can get for $100k-$200k? We are a legit top program and officially a stepping stone. This is how it’s going to be.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 10:38 amJeez, some folks really do just LOOK for reasons to complain. Re: Who stays, who goes?
Seems to me you are cherry picking to validate your displeasure with the hire. You don’t give him credit at Marshall lamenting that was too long ago but you are quick to lay all the blame at ecu. Perhaps he didn’t have the talent at ecu. You ignore all his success and solely focus on what looks like his one rough patch.appwolf wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 10:38 pmApp has had at least one 1000 yard running back every season (excluding the 2 transition seasons) for the last 20 years.
