Who stays, who goes?

Now that Coach Drunk is gone, who else do you think will be leaving? My prediction is:
Leaves: Roof, Harbison, Link, Stewart, Riley
Stays: Clark, Smith, Gasparato, Washington, Watts, Jones

That's exactly the list I had in my mind too, except maybe Jones leaving as well.

Isn’t Roofs son on the team? I think he transferred.

Would love to keep Riley. He’s an up and comer in the coaching ranks.

Good question, maybe slightly more complicated?
Roof - I wouldn't be surprised if he is offered HC. If he is, he stays. Even as DC, I could see him staying as he is a little older and his son is now at App.
Harbison, Link, Stewart, Riley probably gone
I tend to agree with your stays and would add Lance Ware. The one caveat is if Satt loses someone, he could approach one of these guys and we could lose them to Satt.

You’re out of your mind if you think Roof could be our next coach. The players and fans would not back that. Proof shows from his Duke days that he is not the guy...
The only reason his son came here is because he goes wherever Roof goes. That’s why he’s been with at least 3 different schools so far. He didn’t even warm up with the team at the Championship game.

Roof would be the safe bet, but Shawn Clark is the better hire IMO.

I could totally see Riley staying. He has the family pedigree, but he's also really young. If I'm Drink, I'm hiring as experienced a staff as I possibly can.

I do think it is possible he could be our next coach. I would rather have Clark, Elliott or Ledford, but I have heard at least Roof is being considered.
Look, if we lost DG & we make a quick hire, Roof is a big name that has held big roles. It wouldn't be hard to fathom the University going that direction. Again, although I don't necessarily support that, I don't think you can hold the Duke job against him. It was a really tough job back then.

Roof would be a solid asset to a new HC. He has seen it all and has the right demeanor. The players respond well to him. We could do worse.
Riley would need to be promoted to OC to stay.

I am a little surprised that you guys think 3-6 current assistants would stay. That is about half the staff. Unless someone already at App gets the HC job I would have guessed they would bring in their own people. Of course there is the argument that you don't mess with what is already working, but most coaches don't seem to do that. Probably an ego thing--you have to have a pretty healthy one to become a HC.

I’ll be the first to admit I doubted Roof at first. After the Charlotte game, I was ready to run him out of town, but the defense came around. They played lights out in both Carolina games and the first ULaLa game. The players seem to like him. He has done a commendable job this year as DC. Some people just don’t like to admit they were wrong.

I can vouch for this. He was borderline insufferable.

Without going into too much detail, there are quite a few guys on our staff that would not follow Drink and would be considered to stay no matter who we bring in as HC. There is a reason a lot of these guys carried over to Drink when he came.

I would rephrase your comment from "the defense came around" to "the defensive coordinator finally came around" -

My guess....
Gone- Roof, Link, Stewart, Riley, Jones
Stay- Clark, DJ, Gasp, Watts, Horbison, Washington
*the first 4 I think definitely stay, especially if Clark gets the Job.
A lot of talk going on right now and Clark is in EVERYBODY’S mouth.

I came around on Roof, but I promise you, Roof was not solely responsible for the turn around. There were a couple of “field generals” that were making adjustments and new calls on the fly for this defense. Roof came around on the kids....

More will stay if its Clark (or Roof) is made HC than if it is an outsider, obviously.
Link and Stewart are my only two difinite gones, while Clark and Smith are the only two certain to stay, in my opinion.
I think it will be a mix of guys going to Mizzou, guys going other places, guys retiring, and guys sticking around.
Only Link (and maybe Roof) has known Drink long enough to be loyal to him, so I doubt we see a mass of guys follow him like they did Satt. More likely guys like Riley, Stewart, or Washington end up somewhere other than Mizzou or App.

I think there is a decent chance Pat Washington goes to Mizzou. He was the WR coach when Mizzou won the SEC East back to back in 2013 and 2014. No inside info on that or anything. Just speculation.
