Sun Belt Championship Game drew 726K viewers. While we had better numbers than the MAC and MWC, the gap between us and the AAC is pretty big.

I thought we'd do better with our top 25 ranking. I guess markets do matter.

Game time probably has a bit to do with it, as well. Noon games are generally never as highly rated as 3:30 games, which are never as highly rated as night games. Of course it makes a difference who you’re going up against, too. Surprised that AAC got what they did against SEC.

But yes, there is still a gap there in perception.
Give 'em hell!

If one is a casual football fan and has the choice of two noon games, one might be inclined to watch the game with national implications rather than a G5 championship. Being opposite Baylor v Oklahoma means playing second fiddle in the eyes of the majority of the country.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

Part of that is also network vs. ESPN. A game on ABC, CBS, or FOX has more reach than ESPN.

If the Sun Belt Championship had been on at 3:30 PM between two teams playing for the NY6 bid, it would've had the same rating as Cincy-Memphis.

Time slot, channel, and national implications is what draws eye balls. Want more viewers? Get two ranked teams to the Sun Belt Championship. Unfortunately for us, while losing to a ranked in conference opponent in the AAC won't knock you out, doing so in the Sun Belt results in your push for a Top 25 bid almost non-existant without a P5 win.

Louisana's only loss in conference was to now No. 20 App State. They lost to a healthy Mississippi State team, by 10, that finished 6-6 (and pushed App out of the Belk Bowl, damn you Ole Miss).

It is pretty crazy how many people that impacted. Not to say Ole Miss would've won the game, but if they closed the deal, App could've been in Belk, Luke still had a job, Kiffin at Missouri or Arkansas, etc. The trickle down of that one incident is the definition of "The Butterfly Effect".

It falls into the, "it seemed like a good idea at the time" category
