I hope Doug was able to get a nice raise out of this as well. I feel like he's positioning our program for bigger and better things and it's exciting to be a part of it.Stonewall wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 9:08 amYou aren't far off at all from the way it went down and why my friend, based on what I have been told.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 8:22 amSo, I'm thinking they did a straw man poll of the BOT and all were good with Clark and since he was already on staff none of the HR stuff had to happen which can slow things down. So they went ahead and leaked the news yesterday that he was going to be named HC before the formal BOT session tomorrow. That way the recruits (commits & potential commits) could rest easy knowing who the HMIC was going to be.
Also, I suspect Doug knew that Drink was going to be successful with the roster he had and that he'd be hired away pretty quickly and we'd harvest the buyout money. Clark, a Mountaineer-extraordinaire, was positioned on-deck as the "coach-in-waiting" ready to take the helm at a moment's notice.
I have always been impressed with Doug as an AD but I didn't know he was a chess grand-master as well...

I just thanked him for a great season. He replied by thanking me for the message and saying he was “proud of our kids”.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 9:21 amMjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 9:19 amCoach Roof answered my email on Tuesday night.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 9:08 amHave I missed an announcement about Roof leaving? Meaning his key still works and his email is still active. Means he's still on staff as of right now.

I'm planning to watch the Rose Bowl (Wisconsin) and Pinstripe Bowl (Wake) for a preview of next year's P5 opponents. My feeling is that Wake next year will be a similar challenge as North Carolina was this year but Wisconsin is a huge step up over South Carolina...it's an opportunity for Mr Clark to showcase his abilities...

The initial challenge for our defense will be them to be able to actually see into the offensive backfield (above or around them humongous farm boys on their line).Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:20 amI'm planning to watch the Rose Bowl (Wisconsin) and Pinstripe Bowl (Wake) for a preview of next year's P5 opponents. Wake is likely to be completely different next season from most of this season, as I believe they lose both Surratt and their QB. The bowl game will be without at least Surratt, so it might be a good indicator.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:20 amI'm planning to watch the Rose Bowl (Wisconsin) and Pinstripe Bowl (Wake) for a preview of next year's P5 opponents. I think Wake will have both QBs, Newman and Hartman, back next year as well as Surratt but I could be wrong...BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:31 amWake is likely to be completely different next season from most of this season, as I believe they lose both Surratt and their QB. You’re right on Surratt. I got his age mixed up with his brother. I thought Newman was done after this season, but maybe I’m wrong. The announcers during some of their games this year always made it seem he was a Sr.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:36 amI think Wake will have both QBs, Newman and Hartman, back next year as well as Surratt but I could be wrong...BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:31 amWake is likely to be completely different next season from most of this season, as I believe they lose both Surratt and their QB. Wake has all those guys back, so the defense will be tested early. Hoping Taylor from Wisconsin leaves though, but for the most part, their OL is coming back, and should be starting a new QB.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:53 amYou’re right on Surratt. I'm with you guys this is a great day. Bringing Gillin back as well is huge. The expectations are high but I'm sure both men will continue to exceed them. We all need to donate what we can. Money is how we can keep this band together!

Re: OFFICIAL: SHAWN CLARK HC
Jonathan Taylor should be in the top 2 running backs taken in the draft. Wake will be tough as well, but so will APP. It'll be a taller order to win 2 P5s in '20 than '19.NashvilleNeer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 11:56 amWake has all those guys back, so the defense will be tested early. If he goes, he'll be a top RB taken, but if he comes back then he'll break the NCAA rushing record. It's not out of the question that he returns is all I'm saying..Black Saturday wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 12:37 pmJonathan Taylor should be in the top 2 running backs taken in the draft. I'm not even starting to get my hopes up. I'm counting both those games as losses. Sure, App is great and could absolutely beat both of those teams, but 2020 won't be the same as 2019. We will playing two more-than-likely Top 25 teams, not two P5 conference basement dwellers.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 12:37 pmJonathan Taylor should be in the top 2 running backs taken in the draft. Don’t count both of these games as losses. Don’t think our players and coaches feel that way. I expect we will be highly competitive in both with opportunities to win. Never expect to lose!!!

Re: OFFICIAL: SHAWN CLARK HC
My perception based on this years CFP G5 final order is....you need a P5 win and if your P5 Loss is to a top 10 team it does not hurt you.
If we lose to Wisconsin and beat Wake and Wake has a good year and IF we can run the table and finally beat Georgia Southern...then I think we will be in good shape to get the New Years 6 game. A lot of football to be played.
Winning our bowl game will really help us start the season getting votes if not in the top 25 on most polls next year.
Best case scenario is to beat them both...but...if we lose we need them both to be top 25 or if we win we need them to be top 25 teams.
