Field Upgrades
It was my understanding that we are getting new turf soon after the Luke Combs concert. Does anyone have a link to what that new turf will look like? Seems someone had a rendition of it on here sometime ago but I cannot locate it. Thanks

Re: Field Upgrades
I wonder if in the end zone that says "Appalachian," if it'll be changed to "App State?" Since App State is the new branding initiative..

Re: Field Upgrades
I don't think they have released any of that yet. I would imagine the black A will be featured at midfield like they have done on the soccer field and basketball court. And I would personally like to see the APPSTATE script in the endzone.

Re: Field Upgrades
I've wondered the same thing and am betting it will be the new branding. I hope they go with black end zones, regardless. How else would Banks call it the "painted area"?

I think the last one that I saw had APP STATE with the Yosef head at one end and MOUNTAINEERS at the other end. It had the Black block A in the middle of the field. Not sure if that was the actual picture of what it will look at or if someone on here produced that picture. Either way it looked pretty sweet. I hope that is what it looks like.

Good point. Pierre has been great for new drinking games during his broadcasts. Gotta drink when he says painted area and other overused expressions.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:57 amI've wondered the same thing and am betting it will be the new branding. I’m not a fan of being rebranded as App State. I think it’s a cop out for people who can’t pronounce Appalachian. Now that we’re a nationally recognized university is the opportune time to give the country an English lesson.

Re: Field Upgrades
The App State is a good short hand and was more intended to replace the "ASU" reference since we were joining a conference with Arkansas State who also used that reference (as does Arizona State, Alabama State, Alcorn State, etc.). I like it because it give us a unique identity that is usable in short format....which was the intent.Apple@chin1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 10:33 amI’m not a fan of being rebranded as App State. Re: Field Upgrades
I understand your point. I just disagree with the logic. We are Appalachian State University. Period. I want to hear our name used correctly so many times in the media that regular fans know the pronunciation and start using it regularly. There’s a reason I chose the screen name that I use.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 10:56 amThe App State is a good short hand and was more intended to replace the "ASU" reference since we were joining a conference with Arkansas State who also used that reference (as does Arizona State, Alabama State, Alcorn State, etc.). Re: Field Upgrades
Excited about the new turf, like App State etc. I know a lot of ppl like the current Yosef, but think it needs to be updated. It looks tired and hokie. If anyone has seen something like the Mountaineer Mania Yosef, it is the perfect blend or old school Yosef and a fighting Yosef

Re: Field Upgrades
I personally like "App State," it's updated and cannot be confused with anyone else while at the same time paying homage to our history and tradition of using the "App" or "Apps" nickname. It compares to "Penn State" vs Pennsylvania State University.

Re: Field Upgrades
Good point Rick83 on the App/App State Penn State analogy. Best part of App State is Espn. announcers etc are starting to use it and it is not mispronounced etc. It's short and to the point

Consume, imbibe, swill, guzzle. Drink now has a completely different meaning to all Mountaineer fans! Re: Field Upgrades
With the track gone there will be a lot of space between the field and the stands. I hope we find a way to somehow minimize the look of the space. Black makes things look smaller, maybe we should cover most of that space in black turf and surround the field in a band of gold.
Re: Field Upgrades
I am a little confused about this. The turf we have was just put in a couple of years ago and I for one do not see any need for a new one. Can someone explain why we need to spend upwards of a million dollars on this? I have been down on the field and the turf seems fine. As a contributor to the athletic department I don't like seeing this much money spent unnecessarily.

Re: Field Upgrades
Looks like turf was replaced in 2003 and 2011. Seems like 8 years is the expected life of turf?

Re: Field Upgrades
I emailed DG last year after the bowl game and requested we consider the Endzone from last year's New Orleans Bowl.
