That “Head Coach feel”

You can obviously tell Shawn Clark is popular with the players.
But, not gonna lie, little weird seeing the HC in a hoodie, baseball cap, and spitting that much.
To me, the HC job isn’t important just for playcalling, but making the University look good, cool, and badass. I hope to feel like Clark is moving towards that, time shall tell.
For now, great win, great finish, let’s enjoy the rest of the bowl season and then get ready for 2020!

He’s probably dehydrated after all that spitting. Could have been nerves

I agree...put me in the "cautiously optimistic" camp

Arguably the greatest coach in NFL history wears a hoodie or sweatshirt with cut off sleeves. I don't think 25 years from now people will look at the Patriots history and say, "Those seasons were nice but did you see that bum looking Belichek?"

I think getting a coach that "looks" the part lands us Drinkwitz; getting a blue collar, AppState to the core guy gets us Clark. Why on Earth would the fanbase of AppState judge a man on his appearance when we've always been diamonds in the rough and worked with what we had?

The spitting reminds of the younger Moore who was seen spitting and chewing tobacco on a nationally released story on our university. I believe he had his feet up on the table while doing this. I remember cringing when I saw it. I don't think coach Clark is that bad. He is laid back when it comes to the "corporate" coach look.... I can live with it.

Hate to say it but the spitting reminded of Willie Fritz of GS fame. Not bothered by the sweatshirt but the constant spitting not a good look.

I have no worries. Many of us would agree he has a tremendous love for App State. I'm confident he will be conscientious of perceptions that may cast an unfavorable light on our University, and he will put his best foot forward to represent our school with honor.

Have to admit, I would like to see a little more polish in a head coach, but I'm sure Coach Clark will find a happy medium without losing the core of what makes the players and us like and respect him. I do hope that the undisciplined way we racked up personal fouls is not a precursor of things to come though. We are better than that. Players should be comfortable with their coach, but not TOO comfortable.

Pardon if I’m confused or wrong, but are we complaining about coach chewing tobacco on the sideline? Doesn’t our mascot smoke a pipe? I don’t think spitting is going to damage our reputation.

I don't think anyone is complaining, more like simply making an observation. Whether you like it or not, when you wear the back and gold you represent more than yourself, that goes for the Chancellor on down to a fan sitting in the stands.

Of all the dumb threads that we have generated this past 6 months this might take the top spot- hard to top fire Roof but..
What the heck is head coach feel anyway? Someone please define “head coach look” or “feel”. There was at least one shot of the sideline where Shawn was doing a little walk apparently trying to fire the guys up. It was short and sweet. He wasn’t dancing with the team or ripping anyone’s helmet off. He also didn’t appear to be standing there clueless either. The dude had to be nervous as crap. I’m sure that a few games in next season the camera won’t be on him constantly. Hopefully there won’t be random pictures of Drink either(what the hell was that all about?)

Yeah, I agree. Wow! There seems to be a need on message boards to find something...ANYTHING to criticize. I know folks are excited about Clark being coach, and some might be a little nervous. I have to think he was nervous being in the limelight as HC for the first time in a nationally televised bowl game. I just assumed he was salivating at the idea of that Blazer steak he was enjoying....well, at least after the first quarter.
It's GREAT TO BE A MOUNTAINEER!!!

We just won a 5th straight bowl game with a brand new head coach after getting kicked in the nuts right out of the gate, and we’re worried about him wearing a hoodie and a hat? Season’s over. Take some time off. Sit the next few plays out.

I don’t worry about how he dresses or if he spits. I do worry about the long term problems of being a players coach if that includes lack of discipline and troubles on and off the field. I’m sure if someone like Roof stays on he will have some suggestions about that. I hope it doesn’t become a long term issue.
