Agreed...it's special to be a part of our App State family up on the mountain but it's not for everyone. Hope Brown has gotten on track and is successful wherever he lands...unless we have to face him then I hope he crashes and burns...MrCraig wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 11:10 amThanks! I googled his name (probably should have done that first) and saw that he played for Independence Community College last year, and did pretty good! This was the same school that was on the last season of Last Chance U. Then I found where Satterfield had kicked him off the team. Some folks just ain't meant to be Mountaineers.Rick83 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 10:38 amSatterfield kicked Brown off the team for undisclosed "on-field" and "off-field" issues.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 10:35 amI believe Stephon Brown transferred last year and played at a junior college this past season. I don't know what the background is, so I won't speculate but others have implied he wasn't really living up to expectations.

Re: Losing Another one to the Transfer Portal
There should be an all transfer portal team for this past season. You can easily pick the quarterbacks but how about the other positions? How many guys have we had besides Sutton who have played significant time for us? I am willing to bet that more often than not when a guy transfers he generally doesn’t play much or drops to a lower division

Re: Losing Another one to the Transfer Portal
Just saw your reply to me. There is a reason he is at the Jr. College that is on Last Chance U. He made some very bad decisions in his very short time at App. He was a good QB, but a cancer to the program.MrCraig wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 10:21 amMan, I totally missed that Stephon Brown was transferring. Anyone know why? Last I'd heard he was highly regarded, but that was before Thomas stepped up. I understand if this is a PM or "you don't need to know situation."AppState89 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 12:56 pmBelieve me when I say, "App State" does not need him.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:29 pmHard pass on Brown.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:05 pmIf I could have back any of the ones listed, I'd take Collins, Brown and Burnette. The rest are just normal attrition IMO.
We're currently at I believe 81 or 82 scholarships filled, so overall numbers aren't an issue. Though they might be at certain positions.

Saw that as well. I hope he has grown through this experience. He is a tantalizing talent. I wish him the best, and hope he takes this second chance to change his narrative.

Re: Losing Another one to the Transfer Portal
I have never been big on taking local kids as flyers in general. Take them if you think they can play. With that said, I thought Headlee was one that if he worked hard he could be a real good backup in 2 years and maybe a starter eventually.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 6:28 pmThis is pretty standard attrition in modern college football. If kids are past freshman year and are below second string there’s a good chance they will transfer. Headlee is kinda confusing as he is a Boone kid that we kind of took a flyer on in the first place, just thought he would be happy in a reserve roll.
OL is the one spot where a player likely changes the most physically. A 6'3 240 pound TE at 18 can be a 6'4 300 pound All-American OG or OT at 22. I feel like OL is the one position where you can take a flyer here and there.
Prime example. There is an OT from St John's this year who would have had no business getting an offer by a D1 out of HS. He was a 6-6 230 TE but is now a 6-6 308 OT who will get drafted. He could have started for us this year.
