Definitely disappointing to lose OL players as you can never have enough road graders. According to twitter, App was his "dream school" when he signed and he seemed to be all in a month ago on #Clark2020. Wonder what changed?

Appears App has now lost 40% of the 2018 class with 10 departures out of 25 signees.

1) Braden Collins (WR--UTk)
2) Jay Person (ILB--UTC)
3) Harrison Taylor (OLB/DE)
4) Stephon Brown (QB--Juco Independence)
5) Brock Mattison (OLB/DE)
6) Mike Price (CB)
7) Luke Burnette (TE/OT--injured, still enrolled)
8) Josh Headlee (OT)
9) AJ Beach (CB--GMC)
10) Keaton Forbes (OLB/LS--ECU)

Not sure that we will make any moves until after Spring Ball.

Really afraid that the shear numbers of this list will lead to personnel concerns later down the road.

If these guys got up to Boone and couldn't contribute, that is their problem, not App's. Doubt there will be many issues other than greater emphasis on recruiting certain positions. You see positions on the above list where App generally is fairly well stocked.

If I could have back any of the ones listed, I'd take Collins, Brown and Burnette. The rest are just normal attrition IMO.

We're currently at I believe 81 or 82 scholarships filled, so overall numbers aren't an issue. Though they might be at certain positions.

I was told he brought a lot to the practice squad his redshirt year and would contribute at DE ongoing. With our injury issues he left a hole , along with McClurg(?)

This is pretty standard attrition in modern college football. If kids are past freshman year and are below second string there’s a good chance they will transfer. Headlee is kinda confusing as he is a Boone kid that we kind of took a flyer on in the first place, just thought he would be happy in a reserve roll.

I honestly don't think but maybe 4 of these would have been anything more than "depth" at their positions.
1. Jay Person - who knows how good he would have been. But he would be in the conversation at LB this year had he stayed probably.
2. Harrison Taylor - He's lost a lot of weight. He's playing JUCO. Not sure he's picked up much action but we're thin at DL in terms of scholarship guys anyway, so losing a scholarship DL isn't good by any means. Probably would have been at least depth this year.
3. Michael Price - balled out in special teams this year. Could have used him for some more of that & depth in the secondary.
4. AJ Beach - would have been much needed depth at CB this year & next. But...he was one of the ones involved in the St. Patrick's Day Melee. He caused this himself probably.

Other than that, Keaton Forbes was a LS who wasn't going to play.
Burnette is still involved with the team and on a medical hardship waiver.
Headlee has been injured forever.
Brown's best offer out of JUCO is Idaho...he was all hype based on size.
The others were very average at best.

Man, I totally missed that Stephon Brown was transferring. Anyone know why? Last I'd heard he was highly regarded, but that was before Thomas stepped up. I understand if this is a PM or "you don't need to know situation."

I believe Stephon Brown transferred last year and played at a junior college this past season. I don't know what the background is, so I won't speculate but others have implied he wasn't really living up to expectations.

Satterfield kicked Brown off the team for undisclosed "on-field" and "off-field" issues.

Thanks! I googled his name (probably should have done that first) and saw that he played for Independence Community College last year, and did pretty good! This was the same school that was on the last season of Last Chance U. Then I found where Satterfield had kicked him off the team. Some folks just ain't meant to be Mountaineers.
