Better idea to replace bowls!!!!!!
Assumption: CFP expands to 8 teams
Continue the big bowls - 1st, 2nd place teams of the P5
NIT Football tournament. 8 highest rated teams from 8 conferences not in the big bowls.
Hopefully the Highest rated G5 gets the automatic CFP Spot in 8. (Left Memphis out)
The best way to make the tournament interesting to the entire country would be to make it mandatory for each conference to have to send a representative from each conference. (Exclude the West Coast because of travel costs...PAC AND MWC)
Example this year
Appalachian State - Sunbelt
Texas - Big 12
Virginia Tech or Wake Forest - ACC
Wisconsin or Minnesota - Big 10
Florida Atlantic - Conference USA
Central Michigan - MAC
Cincinnati or UCF - AAC
Auburn or Florida - SEC
8 conferences (People would be interested in their conference representative)
This should be contacted like a bowl. We assure our champion will go unless they are the CFP Representative and then we send our second place team. SEC assures their 4th place team. ACC their 3rd. AAC 1st or 2nd. MAC champion, Conf USA Champion.
P5 vs G5 first round (Big10 Vs MAC, ACC Vs. SUNBELT, AAC Vs. SEC, ConfUSA vs Big 12)
2nd Round Atlanta and Dallas
Championship FLORIDA or WARM DESTINATION
APP VS VT - @Charlotte
Wisconsin VS Central Mich - @Detroit
Auburn vs UCF - @Orlando
Florida Atlantic vs Texas - @Dallas
****TV Viewership will be there if it is marketed as SEC VS AAC, ACC VS SUNBELT.
To make it go we may have to go to the 4th or 5th team from the p5's

Looking for the best of the rest I am imagining is the goal, but excluding the west coast seems a little contradictory to that.....unless that's not the goal.

Nope. Would be for different bowl system with more freedom for the bowls to recruit the teams they want versus Auto tie-ins. Fans get tired of the same locations.

Re: Better idea to replace bowls!!!!!!
I think we could only have 8 teams (Three Rounds) Conferences sign contracts...not teams. I think it is the only way we would "maybe" get included in a p5 contract. If it led to the second round being p5 vs p5. Also the way to maybe get respect for winning something. Making it to the second round would be more respected than winning the NewOrleans Bowl.
The biggest concern is would people buy tickets. I think the G5 teams would buy tickets to the first round and the P5 teams would buy tickets for the second round. If the G5 team won...their fans would be excited enough to buy the second round. I think you would get many different teams in this tournament that kept it exciting.
We need to stay associated with the p5 teams however we can make it happen.

No. No. No. No. No. No.
Bowl Pool will sort out issues. Two destinations for bowls will be available beginning in 2020 which includes Myrtle Beach (AAC or MAC) and Cure. Cure is moving to ESPN and with the payout, I doubt the AAC gives it up again.
Side note: It's actually cheaper to fly to Orlando from RDU than it is to drive, depending on how many people you have traveling as well.

Beating a 4th or 5th place Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina will be better for respect than beating a 3 place AAC. ESPN bowl pool may get us a better G5 game but not a seat at the p5 party. I want bowl eligible P5's or number 1 G5s. Number 1 G5's are going to sell out to P5 contracts.
With my system we get both #1 G5's and middle P5's.

Re: Better idea to replace bowls!!!!!!
I have floated a post season idea out a few times that I think would be great. First and foremost, eliminate the conference championship games. Just determine the regular season winner. For clarity sake look back at the past 5 or so years at every P5 and G5 conference to see if a game was actually needed to determine the league champion. If there isn't a clear cut champ then play a game to decide. Two weeks after the final game:
4 bye teams are determined by the committee
The 5 P5 conference champs and the top 3 G5 conference champs are in the first round (G5 champs determined by the committee). If a P5 bye team is a conference champ a wildcard is chosen. The 8 champs are ranked 1-8 with the initial games played at the home of the highest seed. This year the G5 probably would have been App, Boise and Memphis.
After the initial weekend the winners would advance to play the bye teams in the 4 big bowls with those winners advancing on to the national semifinals and championship game with the losers getting a bowl slot. If a conference championship game is eliminated there would only be one added game. Obviously this idea won't ever fly because a single G5 most likely won't get a shot at the NC much less three. More realistically with this model let the highest G5 garner the 8th slot in the first round.
