Mine too. We have five good ones in the middle and if he is the worst of them, we are in good shape.

Talking about showing support for all mountaineers. Damn, Ted Roof hurt you that badly?Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:01 pmSo? Are we to assume Indiana’s players are better than ours? To be quite fair Jackson is an absolute monster and I fully expect him to dominate all year from the MLB spot.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 12:53 pmTalking about showing support for all mountaineers. It sounds like you’re not so much asking for genuine thoughts on Roof’s ability, as you’ve already decided he sucks and is only here bc of his dad.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:26 pmNope just concerned about nepotism playing a roll in our scholarship numbers.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 12:53 pmTalking about showing support for all mountaineers. Lol please tell us what information you have that has you so concerned that TD isn’t deserving of a scholarship here at App? Anything other than the last name?Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:26 pmNope just concerned about nepotism playing a roll in our scholarship numbers.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 12:53 pmTalking about showing support for all mountaineers. Re: 2020 Depth chart
So I just looked it up and saw he was originally at Georgia Tech. So this is his 3rd school in 4 years and he was coming to play for his dad, why would that be the case if he was starter quality? I sincerely hope TD Roof proves me wrong but Cobb and Jackson have put their time in and unless Roof is just incredible then I hope they get the nod over the undersized kid hopping from school to school to play for their famous dad.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 2:00 pmLol please tell us what information you have that has you so concerned that TD isn’t deserving of a scholarship here at App? Re: 2020 Depth chart
I mean he played as a true freshman at GT and then made 39 tackles as a true soph at Indiana. I tend to agree with you that Cobb and Jackson are our most likely starters, but I doubt Roof would have shown that level of production in the Big Ten if he were a total stiff.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 2:18 pmSo I just looked it up and saw he was originally at Georgia Tech. Re: 2020 Depth chart
Physically, Jackson is a monster. His problem is the mental part of the game. If he can figure that part out, hes defensive player of the year the next two years. Thing is, hes aware of this. He's been in the film room more than anybody (coaches included) this off season. He knows he's the mental part of the game away from being in the NFLNavyApp wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:07 pmTo be quite fair Jackson is an absolute monster and I fully expect him to dominate all year from the MLB spot.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 12:53 pmTalking about showing support for all mountaineers. Coaches have always told me they work to get the best 11 on the field so do you think there is a chance one of them could move to the other OLB spot or to ILB if both should start?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 2:07 pmBrown and Harrington play the same position, field side OLB. I imagine Roof will be in the mix at ILB, as will Bird, Doublin and maybe one or two more. But if you're just projecting first string, the two guys who split the spot opposite Fehr last year are probably the best bet until proven otherwise.

Re: 2020 Depth chart
Jackson, Cobb, and Hampton all 3 could have NFL careers if they take the next step over the next 2 years. All 3 of them have the tools. Glad to see Jackson is aware of that because there is no question he has flashed the ability to be elite for us.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 1:32 amPhysically, Jackson is a monster. Re: 2020 Depth chart
Before I say my response to this I'm not going to say Roof is a stud or that he is bad because I don't know yet. I never watched him at GT or Indiana and he did not play in 2019 so I don't know.
With that said, there are a lot of bad players at P5 schools. There are really bad players in every P5 league. Indiana was a solid team but they have starters who would not crack our lineup. Assuming he is good because he played at a P5 is like assuming a D2 player stinks because he came from there. There are D2 players in the NFL and P5 players who never make it.
I sure hope Roof turns out to be very good and I have no clue if he will be but I never assume they will be good just because they got on the field at a P5.

Re: 2020 Depth chart
That is a fair concern in similar cases but if he was just a favor I would have thought he would have left when his dad did. He is staying so while he may or may not get on the field I don't think our coaches take him as a favor. They believe he can play. There is no reason to stay at App with his dad gone if he was just a favor because of dad.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 1:26 pmNope just concerned about nepotism playing a roll in our scholarship numbers.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 12:53 pmTalking about showing support for all mountaineers. Re: 2020 Depth chart
Well this thread had honest and humble beginnings lol! Not trying to derail the conversation but who is everyone's "under the radar" guy coming into the season? For me it's Zareon Hayes, I think he finally gets some significant reps and shows out.
Also any news on how the first week of practice went?

Z has had some injury issues but if he can get healthy I am with you. As to Roof if coaches didn’t think he would contribute would he be on the team?

Re: 2020 Depth chart
In a nut shell, No. Our OLBs are asked two do different things based on the side of the field they are on. I’m sure that one can substitute to the other if needed, but the play would be erratic based on the lack of technique. Same goes for ILB. We have six guys vying for time on the inside so there isn’t a need for that.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 9:43 amCoaches have always told me they work to get the best 11 on the field so do you think there is a chance one of them could move to the other OLB spot or to ILB if both should start?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 2:07 pmBrown and Harrington play the same position, field side OLB. Re: 2020 Depth chart
There is a huge difference in getting a third string player from a P5 versus getting a guy that played a role on the field. Roof played at a great high school with several D1 athletes. His dad is a coach so he understands the cerebral part of the game. He has the genetic makeup of a football player. If you want some stats, 39 total tackles, 30 solo, 1 sack and 4 TOL. He had 8 total, 6 solo and 1 TOL against The Ohio State. He has played in 21 games in his college career. You don’t do that if you can’t play. To use a statement from another post that you made, coaches get the best players on the field.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 9:51 amBefore I say my response to this I'm not going to say Roof is a stud or that he is bad because I don't know yet. I’m not touting Roof as a difference maker, just pointing out some facts for some of you who want to question a kids position on a roster.

Re: 2020 Depth chart
Good to get confirmation. I figured have enough guys that if we stay healthy players should not have to move. I don't talk to our coaches at all about that type of stuff but I did not know if we had a few guys who they felt can truly play inside and outside.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 12:23 pmIn a nut shell, No. Our OLBs are asked two do different things based on the side of the field they are on.
