Our official color is Pantone 116. We need a end zone do over.

Check out Coach Clark’s Twitter. Updated photos. The “MOUNTAINEERS” end zone is nearing completion....and it’s beautiful.

GO APPS!!
Man O man, I see a lot of different “gold” colors going on in this picture. Which one is the real Pantone 116. End zone looks more like Pantone 130 to me.

Hope no one was injured in that wrecked school bus in the end zone! How great would that have looked in the gold around the A. The field looks great NEZ looking great

I've ranted about the abuse of official Appalachian colors on-campus--by admin, faculty and staff for 30+ years. Ditto for abuse of Appalachian colors by outside contractors and vendors.

It simply doesn't matter whether it involves campus signage, interior or exterior paint, official Appalachian printed matter, departmental stationery, athletic department facilities, team uniforms, licensed university apparel or whatever you want to name--the colors are abused in about any direction you look on campus.

What lights my fuse is that this isn't about neurosurgery; it's merely about university employees following BOT approved policies and about those entrusted to enforce said policies doing their jobs. The University Branding Council doesn't make enough effort to enforce the policies related to branding and colors; and it shows.

The "colors" policy states that the official (primary) university colors are black and either Pantone 115U or 116C (aka Appalachian Gold). Also see Appstate88's post above.

Brief example of a two-decades-old issue: When Holmes Convo Center opened 20 years ago, I counted no fewer than 18 different shades of yellow-to-gold interior colors just walking around a couple of hours before the UNC game tip-off. By comparison, you'd find no such color mishmash in facilities of similar use at Carolina, State, UNC-A, ECU or WCU. There's simply no good excuse for such lack of attention to detail at our alma mater.

Sorry for the lengthy post. This won't begin to change in my lifetime. I've given up. I hope it improves in the lifetimes of grads from this year going forward. Sadly, it can get much worse and become even more noticeable to the casual observer.

WOW! A new beautiful field totally messed up with that Orange endzone. When I first saw coach's tweet and saw the Orange endzone I couldn't believe it. I love App and I know there are plenty more things to worry about right now but that is so disappointing.

From the time we switched from old gold to "athletic gold" in 1983 our official color had always been Pantone 123 which is similar to what end zone has. It only changed to 116 a few years ago due to Nike.

This isn't a new issue with this turf. The signage didn't match the previous end zones either...

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Good post. I guess the track helped my eyes break up the color mismatch between the field and the signage. Thankful for black end zones.

I actually like the endzone gold better than the yellow gold. But I do agree we should have some consistency and use the same color. Too late now it seems.

To me the "gold" in the endzone doesnt even match the gold around the mid-field A. Fine the endzone doesnt match the signage, but how do you make a mistake like that? Two shades of gold on the same field? Tacky.

I like the end zone colors as well, but I agree that color consistency is important to branding and a professional appearance. I may have a different opinion after seeing it in person or on television, but for now I like it.

The signage on the bottom walls of the stands is either faded or was never correct. The endzone color is correct.

Sixtoes, I was wondering the same thing. I don't know if it's technically "correct" or not, but yellow generally fades pretty significantly. I'm wondering if some of the discrepancies are due to that. Of course, that wouldn't explain the issues in the Holmes Center. I do think we have a lot of inconsistency, but the fading makes it worse.

I think we might want to get multiple angles of photos before we go off half-cocked. Have seen numerous photos and depending on the shot colors appear shades different. same for the green striping etc.

I'm fairly certain the "gold" on the midfield A is the same version as the endzone gold. For some reason this shade of Yellow looks different when presented thinner/thicker. I've even noticed it on some of my Nike gear. You glance at the border of the black Block A on a polo and it looks much more mustard yellow and then look at it on another shirt with the "APPSTATE" branding and the University-Gold colored "APP in APPSTATE" looks deeper, more golden...but when you hold it right up beside the other shirt and the Block A you can see it's the same color. I chalk it up to one of those weird eye/visual tricks. I love the Nike backed University Gold myself but we desperately need to make a decision, hopefully in the direction of University-wide adoption, and stick with it for consistency sake.
