Thomas is QB #1
Huesman is QB #2
Everything after that is up in the air. Either way you cut it, we will most likely open 2021 with someone making their first start and getting their first meaningful snaps in that game.

Second 94's post, and I'll add that barring something unforeseen this fall, we likely won't even begin to sort out who the '21 starter will be until at least next spring. Not much you can really learn with two of the possible candidates holding clipboards this year and the other two still in high school.

That game in Charlotte is going to be crazy. I know some hate that it was moved to Thursday night, but when you don't leave the game with serious case of duck butter, you'll be glad. With the support we have in Charlotte, attendance from App Nation will be insane.

I think the point of this thread was to have some fun speculating as a fan. Why take that fun away from us?

Speculate away! I read “has anyone heard” in the OP as asking if there was any current info or even rumors out there. Also he asked about 2nd string this year, which is the one part of the question that can be answered a bit more definitively, as 94 did.

We do seem to have some excellent options in the QB room. DBG has some amazing physical attributes. I would love to see us with that kind of athlete at QB. It's been a long time since we had a big QB and in this case, we wouldn't even sacrifice speed or athleticism. That said, there are some other very talented QBs who will be in the mix and the mental part of the job will probably be the deciding factor. The QB who has the best understanding of our playbook and who makes the best decisions will ultimately wind up playing. I don't know how DBG is developing....nor any of the others. It should be very interesting to watch.

In the event that DBG doesn't win the starting role, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the field in another capacity. I have to think that, he will either see the field or he will transfer and he is too good an athlete to sit on the bench for too long.

Hopefully, we have the next ZT #12. That was a total surprise at Penn State as it was really unknown how he would play under live action. I would take accuracy with above average arm-strength as priority.. enough running ability to evade the rush...

It would not surprise me to see us use multiple QBs for situational instances for the first few games.

DBG or Tabscott I'm guessing. I see Navy being 2nd and whoever doesn't win out between DBG or Tabscott losing the drive to compete to be QB2.

Editing to add that I have no information whatsoever and my opinion is complete speculation based on 0 facts.

I went back and watched DBG's senior high lights and he does have talent. He snaps his wrist when throwing the ball a lot like Cam Newton, although sometimes he throws off balance and his form is just ok. It has been awhile since we had a physical type QB. ZT was surprisingly quick on his feet and I think DBG is also, the only unknown factor and probably the biggest factor for a QB is Mental Development and we won't know how he is mentally until he takes the field.

I would agree with your assessment on DBGs film. Minor flaws that can be corrected, but if not, he wouldn’t get away with some of those throws. I am interested in what Peterson can do with him.

And outside of mop up duty in a couple of games, or an injury to ZT, I don't expect we will see much of Griffin in 2020. I hope he is ready and 2021 is his time.

We have done it before and it can work, especially if they have different skill sets. I'm not a huge fan of it though so I hope we have a true #1. Like you said, it can take a few games to figure that out sometimes.

Totally agree. A few game time situations in 2020 to ready him for 2021.

I'm not a big fan of a 2QB system. I've seen it work in a few cases but more often, it seems to just keep the offense out of rhythm. Situational use of QBs seems to just show your hand about what you're about to do. It's possible but I would be surprised to see App commit to a real 2QB system....at least not for long. Someone will emerge.

I know that without injury we won't see a lot of him but I hope anytime we can play him and Huesman that we do it. I hope he can get mop up duty at least 4-5 times this year. If so, I hope we at least throw some high percentage passes and let him get his feet wet. I never understood why coaches put in the future starter but shut the offense down and just run 2 plays the rest of a game. I'm not saying go deep and be super aggressive but run a good 20-25 plays or so and let them show what they can do. It is the other's team's job to stop you. As long as you milk the clock and don't throw bombs then you aren't trying to run it up. You are just running your offense to learn about your future QB.

Same here. I hope we have a true QB1. I have seen us do it and it work before but also seen cases where I felt like we needed to just pick someone. We still never won a national title or SBC with a 2 QB system so I hope we don't start it. I would understand if we had to but I sure hope one of these guys will be ready to lead by week 1.

Both Huesman and DBG should be able to get on the field vs Morgan State I’d imagine. If I’m Shawn though I would possibly have a conversation with Huesman prior to the year telling him to not be surprised if it’s DBG that gets the nod in most of the mop up time. There’s no game I’ve wanted to win more than that ‘21 ECU game.
