Only one thing to add...............EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 12:05 pmSecond 94's post, and I'll add that barring something unforeseen this fall, we likely won't even begin to sort out who the '21 starter will be until at least next spring. Not much you can really learn with two of the possible candidates holding clipboards this year and the other two still in high school.
Speculate away! I read “has anyone heard” in the OP as asking if there was any current info or even rumors out there. Also he asked about 2nd string this year, which is the one part of the question that can be answered a bit more definitively, as 94 did.
I would agree with your assessment on DBGs film. Minor flaws that can be corrected, but if not, he wouldn’t get away with some of those throws. I am interested in what Peterson can do with him.Deano wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 9:50 amI went back and watched DBG's senior high lights and he does have talent. He snaps his wrist when throwing the ball a lot like Cam Newton, although sometimes he throws off balance and his form is just ok. It has been awhile since we had a physical type QB. ZT was surprisingly quick on his feet and I think DBG is also, the only unknown factor and probably the biggest factor for a QB is Mental Development and we won't know how he is mentally until he takes the field.
And outside of mop up duty in a couple of games, or an injury to ZT, I don't expect we will see much of Griffin in 2020. I hope he is ready and 2021 is his time.Woodstovegang wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 4:38 pmOnly one thing to add...............EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 12:05 pmSecond 94's post, and I'll add that barring something unforeseen this fall, we likely won't even begin to sort out who the '21 starter will be until at least next spring. We have done it before and it can work, especially if they have different skill sets. I'm not a huge fan of it though so I hope we have a true #1. Like you said, it can take a few games to figure that out sometimes.
Totally agree. A few game time situations in 2020 to ready him for 2021.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 11:44 amAnd outside of mop up duty in a couple of games, or an injury to ZT, I don't expect we will see much of Griffin in 2020. I know that without injury we won't see a lot of him but I hope anytime we can play him and Huesman that we do it. I hope he can get mop up duty at least 4-5 times this year. If so, I hope we at least throw some high percentage passes and let him get his feet wet. I never understood why coaches put in the future starter but shut the offense down and just run 2 plays the rest of a game. I'm not saying go deep and be super aggressive but run a good 20-25 plays or so and let them show what they can do. It is the other's team's job to stop you. As long as you milk the clock and don't throw bombs then you aren't trying to run it up. You are just running your offense to learn about your future QB.Woodstovegang wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 11:49 amTotally agree. Same here. I hope we have a true QB1. I have seen us do it and it work before but also seen cases where I felt like we needed to just pick someone. We still never won a national title or SBC with a 2 QB system so I hope we don't start it. I would understand if we had to but I sure hope one of these guys will be ready to lead by week 1.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 11:51 amI'm not a big fan of a 2QB system. I've seen it work in a few cases but more often, it seems to just keep the offense out of rhythm. Situational use of QBs seems to just show your hand about what you're about to do. It's possible but I would be surprised to see App commit to a real 2QB system....at least not for long. Someone will emerge.
