I don't get it...
Why the fart are experts giving UNC's Sam Howell so much credit & Zac Thomas jack squat?? I'm glad Thomas is officially on the Davey O' Brien QB watch list, but he should be ranked much higher than Howell. Howell is no where near a top 10 QB at all. Shouldn't even be in the top 25 IMO. Thomas should.

As little respect I have of all things CHeat, Howell isn’t that bad when Demetrius Taylor isn’t making him look like a back up on the 8th grade team.MountaineerChemist10 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:33 amWhy the fart are experts giving UNC's Sam Howell so much credit & Zac Thomas jack squat?? no offense bud, but Howell is significantly better.MountaineerChemist10 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:33 amWhy the fart are experts giving UNC's Sam Howell so much credit & Zac Thomas jack squat?? Imo, chemist has a point. No doubt Howell is good but it could EASILY be argued that Zack is better.NashvilleNeer wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:43 amno offense bud, but Howell is significantly better.MountaineerChemist10 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:33 amWhy the fart are experts giving UNC's Sam Howell so much credit & Zac Thomas jack squat?? Re: I don't get it...
Of all the QBs you could take issue with, Howell ain’t the one to pick. 3,600 yards, 38 TDs and 7 INT as a true freshman.
Your UNC hate is clouding your vision.

Nothing wrong with that. But yeah, Howell is mostly deserving of the hype, as long as he isn't playing against Demetrius Taylor.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 10:54 amOf all the QBs you could take issue with, Howell ain’t the one to pick. 3,600 yards, 38 TDs and 7 INT as a true freshman.

I do think ZT is severely underrated. I think he'd eclipse Howells #s from last year if we had the offense that was advertised with drink, instead of the rather boring (if effective) offense we actually got.

Re: I don't get it...
I don't like to admit it but Howell did play some big time ball in significant games against P5 competition last year and he kept bringing his team back. He made plays and was a freshman. That is a big point. He led his team from a loser to making them a winner with a winner's attitude. He came close against Clemson, won against USC, came close with App and Wake in comebacks. You have to give him credit. We were in his face a lot and he didn't back down and kept making plays.
I like Zac a lot and think he is our stud. I hope Clark gives him a little more leeway throughout games. I feel like Eli tended to get a bit cautious to close out big games but then again, I thought same of Satt but both of them won so have to bite my tongue a little because of results.

Re: I don't get it...
Howell will play on Sundays and Zac will not. Zac is a baller for us but it’s pretty clear just from the stats and the eyeball test.
I’ve got 100 bones to pick with the UNC hype but Howell ain’t one of them. His stats as a true freshman in the ACC were exceptional.

Re: I don't get it...
Agree 100% with this assessment. I do love Zach. I like how he plays, etc. However, I do believe Howell is better overall QB. One of the reasons Howell did not run much last year is they had no back up at QB. We shall see if Howell is able to sustain success in year 2.ah59396 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:46 pmHowell will play on Sundays and Zac will not. Re: I don't get it...
I don't think Coach Drink did Zac any favors last season by taking his foot off the pedal in key games. We all thought we were going to see our multi-faceted offense unleashed last year but it never happened. Unfortunately, that renders Zac's stats less impressive than his actual talent level. I have nothing against Howell and do think he's an excellent QB in the making. I'm hoping that we get to see Zac play this fall and that Coach Clark finally takes off the restraints.

Re: I don't get it...
Its hard to get in to the what ifs of "unleashing" an offense. ZT may have thrown more interceptions on some of the plays had the foot not been taken off the pedal. That is a hard thing to speculate. It just as easy to screw a kids stats up by going big too many times as it is to pad someones stats. What would our conversation be right now if Drink had gone ballz to the walls and ZT had 500 more passing 250 more rushing 5 more TDs and 20 more interceptions and 3 more fumbles?

The NFL has dozens of quarterbacks with less talent than Zac Thomas. Just sayin’.

Re: I don't get it...
Yes, all that is true, but speculation is the primary purpose of most of these discussions. I fully understand that interceptions could have changed the outcome in a negative way. I also didn't say I expected a "balls to the walls" scenario when we had the lead, but a reasonable mixture of plays rather than all runs could have sustained drives and prevented UNC/USC/UL from getting the ball back. My point was just that unexpectedly conservative play calling is one of the reasons Zac's stats weren't better. Call it lack of opportunity. We all know the most important stat is a W.appdaze wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 1:39 pmIts hard to get in to the what ifs of "unleashing" an offense. Re: I don't get it...
The stats are not any better for Howell. He threw for more yards because his team was always behind partially because of him. Last cheat quarterback hasn’t proven he can play on Sundays yet , why should I believe Howell will. AND Zack led is team to 13 wins. The argument can be made that Zack is better.

Re: I don't get it...
No, they weren't down because of Howell. I know a lot of people here have the little brother syndrome with UNC, but it's not really close at all. I watch all the NC schools games and he's deserving of a top-5 ranking right now. Zac is good, but there's a gap, quite a large one as well.pop5app wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 1:55 pmThe stats are not any better for Howell. No apples to apples comparison since they play on different teams with different personnel and different coaches. Most likely both players deserve recognition for different reasons. No need to waste time comparing unless you put them on the same team and evaluate their play.

Re: I don't get it...
The big deal that will always come up is the level of competition. They'll say if Howell played Apps schedule he would have even higher stats.
This is a tail chasing debate.
