Sean Price continues to impress and could set records at App. He has the potential to become one of the App all time greats. Will he continue to wear #14, or will App finally retire the jersey. Does anyone have any information on this?

Better yet, can it just become a requirement that in order to wear #14 you have to be extremely talented as the last two guys to wear the number have been!

Not really in favor of "retiring" a number. Hard to really do when you are running a program. Retiring a jersey, OK. But do not want to retire the number. Some schools have lost potentially great players because they felt like they had to wear a certain number.

FWIW, I have heard Price will be wearing #10 this year.. not trying to start rumors or anything, just relaying what I have heard through the grapevine.

I heard that he was just gonna wear an "S" across his chest!!!

BUT DOG-GONE-IT.. If #14 hasn't earned it with 2 National Championships and 2 Walter Payton Awards I don't know who would?!?

You don't retire jerseys/numbers for good players... You retire them for GREAT players.. Once-in-a-lifetime players... AE was certainly that... and more.

It adds to the tradition of the program. I was not around to watch any of those four at Appalachian, but because their numbers are on the walls of the KBS grandstands, I have an appreciation for what those four men did for the program.

Everyone around the program knows AE's number should be retired and I doubt it will be a big deal for a recruit if he doesn't get to wear 14. Heck, one floor of the athletic building which recruits are bound to see at some point is dedicated entirely to listing AE's accomplishments.

If I were Price, I'd actually be glad to get out of the shadow of that number and build my own App legacy under #10 or whatever number he is choosing.

I was privileged to see three of the four players whose numbers are retired at ASU. Each one of them was worthy of that honor. However, if ever a number deserved to be retired by a program, #14 is it at ASU. I'm not a big fan of retiring numbers, but sometimes a player comes along that requires an exception. Armanti Edwards was that player. I would have no problem at all with having a huge ceremony and retiring #14 with all the fanfare we can muster.

I tend to fall on the side of retiring jerseys, but #14 should be retired.

I agree! I think it's a <1 second decision. If we don't retire it, what would a player have to do to deserve it? Walk on walk?

To all: retiring jerseys/numbers is obviously a hot issue here and rightfully so. My solution would be that the previously retired numbers be kept as is. Then start at "Wall of Honor" at KBS somewhere on the facade of the building complex. Put the numbers there with the name of the honoree that wore it and then let the number "remain in play." For what it's worth I wouldn't want to be the one wearing the number but it could be one that is a team honor: let the team vote on whether a player is worthy of the number and make it a prestigious thing.

This is something that just came to mind and would need some fine-tuning but in some way it solves the issue of retiring a number and also honoring the player who previously wore it.

Good idea, but #14 has to be retired or put all the numbers back in play.

If ASU does not retire Armanti's number, then no number should EVER be retired, and "logic" would seem to suggest to go back and un-retire previous numbers retired.
