this is exactly what Clemson's QB said Sunday, that many players stand a much bigger chance of getting the virus at home running around their boys that at Clemson or any school that can offer such protections and testing.Rick83 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 10:52 amI'm no expert but it seems to me that the players (and they should have voice in the decision) aren't necessarily going to be better protected from the virus if left to their own devices. Especially those from lower economic environments whose families might not be able to work remotely from home.
Kids have been partying in large groups all across the country even with restrictions in place. At least on a college football team the coaches have one of the biggest incentives to influence behavior...if you don't follow the Covid rules...you don't play or practice for two weeks as you're in quarantine. PLUS, they would have ready access to medical professionals whom I would assume would be monitoring them closely...I doubt they'd get that at home. just my opinion.

Our schedule is not what it once was so we will not have much in the way of big tv games. I'm not sure this helps us at all. We aren't playing the SEC. Im curious to know if there is something behind the scene tying the Belt to the SEC decision beyond the idea of a similar geographical footprint. Otherwise, I don't think any of this actually helps us.

The PAC 12 is in session on the clock...
As Lou Holtz says, the Big 10 and PAC 12 are joined at the hip by the Rose Bowl so we know how this vote will go...

I go with A5 for Autonomous because that is what they are within the landscape of the NCAA. I do not call them P5 for power because it's an oxymoron. Nothing screams "power" like the Weaks, Vandys, Rutgers, Kansas' etc. of the football world. They all get to cash checks riding the coattails of Bama, Clemson, LSU, OSU and OU. Imagine what strong football programs like App, Boise, LaTech, Marshall, SDSU and UCF could do with half the resources these other A5 programs get for winning 4-6 games a year.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 11:04 amSuggestion: Don't give the 5 conferences that go by the Power 5 or Autonomous 5 moniker the benefit. I do hope the remaining conferences each make their own decisions and don't bow down because the "elite" conference says no --- the PAC 12 is basically irrelevant to the ACC, SEC, SBC

Agreed! And if you want to go as far as looking at potential National Champs, Ohio State is the only real contender in the BIG10 or PAC12.

Re: Big Ten Done
So that makes 2 G5 conference and 1 P5 conference (with another announcement due at any time now) that will not play college football this fall. Sadly, I think this will spread like wildfire to the other conferences. Today, I finally believe we will not have a season this fall.

Serious question here. Let’s say that the ACC, SEC and maybe the Big12 keep going along with the Sunbelt. Does the NCAA allow the remaining schools to play for the championship then do something else for the Spring teams? What happens if say, only the G5’s play?

Re: Big Ten Done
The NCAA doesn’t govern FBS level football. The championship is legislated through the 10 FBS conferences, five, of which, really call the shots, but our five are still a part of the process.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 2:22 pmSerious question here. Re: Big Ten Done
The NCAA has does not sanction FBS football championships so it wouldn't be an issue in football. As for the other fall sports, unless the NCAA cancels the championships, like it has with the FCS playoffs already, then it should be up for grabs to whatever sanctioned teams are competing.

Re: Big Ten Done
The cfp is a separate championship outside the ncaa. They are sanctioned ncaa games but not run by the NCAA. The NCAA d1 football championship (FCS Playoff) has been canceled.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 2:22 pmSerious question here. Screw that, Nebraska wants to play and needs games...I know a mountain town much prettier than Nebraska where they can come play a game!

Re: Big Ten Done
Question earlier about the championship was asked incorrectly. Obviously the NCAA isn’t the ruling body. Really was wondering if there would be a regular champion then one in the Spring. It’s really probably a mute point anyway as the inevitable will occur any day now.

Re: Big Ten Done
I think the PAC12 was expected. If the SEC, ACC, & BIG12 play their cards right, they could bury the BIG10 and PAC12 for the foreseeable future. The money grab, and reputation bump they would receive if this is successful, could forever position them to form a big 3 and leave the other 2 in the dust.
Not to mention the BIG10 has royally pissed off their blue bloods.
