Fall athletes extra year

This would be huge for the program if it comes to pass. The team could potentially have ZT, Henni, Hannon, Neuz, Sutton, MW14, DT48, SJ-C etc. back for 2021 with ECU, Marsha and the U on next year's schedule. Everyone needs to open up those wallets because it won't be cheap!
"The NCAA Division I Council on Wednesday approved a proposal to grant all fall athletes an extra year of eligibility, no matter if they play a 2020–21 season or not. Final approval is expected to come Friday during a meeting among the Division I Board of Directors."

It would be huge in terms of talent, and also costs to the athletic department. Honestly I’m not sure we could afford it...

I don't believe all will stay another year either. I'm sure those with NFL prospects will have to weigh the option to move on or stay.

Those who are about to graduate would have to enroll as grad students of some kind I would think. That is a tough call as a senior. Finish your degree and move on to the workforce or do some sort of grad school type of thing and hope that we are able to play next year. Lots of pros and cons here.

There would also be a ripple effect for the non-seniors who would be filling in for those who graduate each year and thus getting their chance to play...there are no easy answers to any of this.

Unless I already had a job lined up or a NFL draft prospect, I'd stay in college if given the opportunity. As someone who graduated in 2009 during uncertain times, any senior should definitely consider taking this offer of an extra year of eligibility. Don't let Wall Street fool you. Main Street is very much still suffering.

I would say, if the student decides to play they should consume their year but if they decide not to play as they are concerned about health conditions that should be respected and they get to keep their year of eligibility. That would be a fair compromise. It sounds good to just give everybody an extra year but that comes at a huge cost that many programs can't afford. Is that really fair to all players, those on roster now and incoming? Extra year for everyone would have a bunch of unintended consequences.

Obviously, not all that would be eligible to come back given the opportunity, would. But, this is a large group leaving with a large group coming in (25). There would be no way we could afford to foot that bill. Some folks would likely transfer (those who would be next in line to start with the departure of the current senior class). It would likely be a real mess. I agree with AtlAppMan. If we play this Fall, anyone who participates, should not be invited back.

Just for reference we had to raise a little over $100,000 last spring to bring back baseball and softball seniors for 2021.

I agree. Additionally, these players have been in the program and made the commitment for 4-5 years. Some may be ready to move on with their lives and may not want to spend a 5th or 6th year with that time/physical commitment, plus some incoming players would likely transfer.

If we play this year and say all of our seniors play pretty well then I would say Sutton, Virgil, Taylor, Hennigan, Marcus Williams, and maybe Malik Williams (assuming they all do well) would have no reason to return and should indeed attempt the NFL. The rest of our seniors would truly benefit from one more year because I don't see the rest of them making it so for Thomas, Neuzil, Hunter, Hannon, and Jean-Charles I would say they should come on back. With that said though the only ones I expect to make at least a practice squad are Virgil, Sutton, and Taylor so the other 3 could come back as well. It would obviously depend on each individual situation though I would imagine.
