New Years Day bowl!!
It would be a fitting end to an insane year if this happened. https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... difficult/

Re: New Years Day bowl!!
My question is who are we suppose to lose to? They have us at 11-1. For the last 6 years we have been picked to lose to Louisiana, and yes maybe they do finally beat us, but we have always beat them and thus I would think playing in Boone means we would be favored in that game as well.rbarthle17 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 10:34 amThis link has his actual bowl projections: https://www.cbssports.com/collegefootba ... redictions

Re: New Years Day bowl!!
If we had lost 7 starters on offense and even 5-6 on defense with all of our top players gone I would expect it. Louisiana has lost its top OL and the best senior RB in the SBC while they do return their QB. They do return 2 stud RBs and I look at us the same way as them except we return 4 OL starters, unlike them. On defense we both lost about the same. I just don't get why we would be favored to lose at this point. If we struggle this year and can't replace our losses while they show they can I can see why people would pick them but until I see that I just can't justify picking Louisiana, yet.AppinVA wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:47 pmDue theory, I guess.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:19 pmMy question is who are we suppose to lose to? My guess is Stink as we have lost to them twice in a row and our next meeting is in Stinkboro.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:19 pmMy question is who are we suppose to lose to? Scratching my head on that one? I'd swear he was a Mountaineer that was drafted by the Titans.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:52 pmIf we had lost 7 starters on offense and even 5-6 on defense with all of our top players gone I would expect it. Outback with LSU, we better put our big boy pants on for that one but I will be there baby! Dang right.
And just imagine all those B1G and PAC-12 fans sitting in their living rooms on New Years Day watching App State football on the big screen, wishing their team was there.

Re: New Years Day bowl!!
Think of it not as being "supposed to" lose a specific game, but the probability that we'll slip up somewhere along the way (as we always have in the Sun Belt).AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:19 pmMy question is who are we suppose to lose to? If you give us an 80% chance against each of ULL, A-State and GS and a 90% chance against, say, Troy, that's a 46% chance we get through just those four games unbeaten. And you still have seven others, plus the conference title game.

That’s the truth for me. Asterisk season or not. If we are in the Outback Bowl playing LSU, people will watch. It’ll be a bigger stage than we have ever been on nationally. Fun to imagine.

I will take that asterisk for this year.ah59396 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 3:43 pmAtlAppMan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 3:35 pmOutback with LSU, we better put our big boy pants on for that one but I will be there baby! Dang right.

This is correct. With the current schedule, App is likely favored to win every game. But there are always a chance of a loss and odds are we will suffer at least one during the season assuming the current schedule can be played. Using ESPN's FPI as a model, the most likely loss isn't even Louisiana since it's at home. They give App 74% chance. The three they have as the closest games currently are:
@ Marshall 67.9%
@ Georgia Southern 66.9%
@ Coastal Carolina 67.9%
I'm honestly not sure how they've calibrated the odds this year assuming that no stadium is going to be filled to capacity with fans if they have any at all. I think there's evidence from other sports during this pandemic that home field advantage is severely diminished without an opposing crowd. If the current numbers aren't factoring that, Louisiana could indeed be the toughest game for App this year.

Would be awesome but I’m jaded after the rumors that came out last year of the NO bowl not letting the belt out of the contract. That’s a question I have about bowls, will the sunbelt be allowed out of its bowl obligations or will the belt tie in bowls take teams under .500?

If the conference does not all App. St. out of bowl tie-in for New Years Day Bowl game against a Power 5, we should send in paperwork to withdraw from the conference!?BTK2000 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 9:32 pmWould be awesome but I’m jaded after the rumors that came out last year of the NO bowl not letting the belt out of the contract. If NYD bowl, wouldn't the conference get a large payout? Not sure, but, if so,. they would be hurting themselves in a year of financial distress due to a pandemic. Wouldn't be very intelligent...all assuming payout is significant for NYD game

I would have thought so but with how high Louisiana is rated by many I figured it was them.appstate77 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 2:11 pmMy guess is Stink as we have lost to them twice in a row and our next meeting is in Stinkboro.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:19 pmMy question is who are we suppose to lose to?
