Wish him the best. It makes sense, hate to see it. He will be a Mountaineer for life!

Is he 100% healed up? If not, this is a smart decision.

"I look forward to taking my game to another level this offseason and return to the field in 2021."

Do we interpret this to mean he'll be back next season playing for App or trying his hand at the NFL? With games against the U, ECU and Marshall, he can get some good tape for scouts. Also, potentially 3 productive Seniors (Hennigan, Williams and Virgil) graduating and not returning, he'll undoubtedly be the #1 with the shot at a lot more targets to put up big numbers. This may be really good for whoever ends up being the QB to have this type of go-to talent you can depend on as the WR corp was going to be young next year.

this isn't very surprising. Best of luck to him in the NFL and I hope he gets his degree. He's always a mountaineer in my book

The first paragraph is past tense, he's going to the NFL.

Wish him nothing but the best moving forward

Unless those seniors don’t want to come back, they’re given an extra year by the NCAA. They’ll all be back unless they have nfl hopes.

I was going to ask if he is going to NFL or transferring. Either way it is worded like he is done at App. Doesn't it read that way?

Yeah the wording of that message is very confusing. He’s most definitely done at App because he’s speaking of it in the past tense, but is he going to the NFL or transferring?

Probably too early to make that last statement definitively. Some guys may be ready to start the next phase of their lives, whatever that is.

(Of course, I imagine many of them have NFL "hopes." Whether they're realistic is another question.)

Did anybody else notice in Coach Clark’s post practice interview last week, when talking about the receivers, he mentioned Hennigan, Malik and Vergil by name, but not Sutton?... It struck me funny then, but this might explain why. I too wonder if he’s transferring instead of declaring...

I hope him the best in the future, clearly he means going NFL "next level".

I read his announcement to indicate he was declaring for the NFL. He specifically said "taking my game to another level" which I read as the NFL. If "another level" referred to an elite P5, I would see that as a HUGE risk since he would have to compete with elite WRs, develop chemistry with a new QB, etc. I don't see that happening. I think he will continue working out, healing up (if needed), avoiding injury and getting ready for the combine. I wish him all the best and appreciate all that he has given!

What you described as the P5 is what is essentially going to be what he does when he tries out for NFL so that is why when I see players transfer to P5 I think they are doing something pointless. If he is moving on to the NFL I completely get why he would do that. Hope he returns because I think he needs another year of film to show he is healthy.

Almost 3,000 attempt the NFL every year and really only about 700 have any real shot but I think Corey does stand a real chance. However, we only have about 4-5 seniors who I think have a real chance to make it at this point. The rest should come back if they want to keep playing and not give up football after this fall.
