sunbelt gaining respect
Big 12 losses X3, Conference USA from us this was a good weekend for the Sunbelt argument for NY6. We could own our own destiny.

Re: sunbelt gaining respect
Glad to see it! The Sun Belt should also have another league first this week when we have 2 teams ranked in the top 25 (App and Louisiana).
If we have a full season and run the table then we could own our destiny but I just want to win next week by 20+ right now. Campbell gave Georgia Southern a huge scare. We have to be ready for sure. The target on our backs is huge right now. We are getting the absolute best shot from every team we play this year.

Marshall won't be an easy one. Let's smack them around then beat Campbell by 20 plus.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 11:55 pmGlad to see it! The Sun Belt should also have another league first this week when we have 2 teams ranked in the top 25 (App and Louisiana).

Stink barely had enough players to field a team yesterday. Campbell QB is tough. Marshall on the road will be a big challenge. Can't make the mistakes we made yesterday or we won't win.

They still act as if we're the FBS doormat. Apparently USA Today hasn't been paying attention to the last few seasons and bowl games. We're a solid #2 or #3 G5 conference.

For some reason I had Marshall and Campbell inverted on our schedule in my head (late post) but I still hope we clean things up and win by 20 or so. I don't think we will but that is my hope.AppDub wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 7:23 amMarshall won't be an easy one. As for Campbell, they are a good enough FCS team that if we had 30 players out they should play us close but I would still expect to win by 14 or so. I was disappointed that it took GSU so long to wake up. They made a lot of errors and still found a way to win. I think if GSU has everyone they win that game by 40+. I thought the game would be close but more like 10-14 instead of 1 with those suspensions.

I had the unique opportunity to watch the game on a nice new LG tv in a new.....hospital room at Mission Hosp./Asheville after kidney stone surgery. The doctors & nursing staff were very complementary on the Mountaineer football program, including the UNC grads.

we don't need to worry about Campbell, but Marshall will be tough. That QB is very solidAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 11:55 pmGlad to see it! The Sun Belt should also have another league first this week when we have 2 teams ranked in the top 25 (App and Louisiana).

Might be able to debate #2, but no worse than #3. National writers don't really know much about the smaller conferences though. They just assume the AAC is the SEC of the G5 and continue to just vote them ahead of everyone elsehotrod2001 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 9:17 am"...Appalachian State and a potential rebound season from Troy and the conference has the makings of an impressive top tier than can come close to matching other Group of Five conferences."Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 8:01 amUSA Today giving Sunbelt some love

Maybe, maybe not (concerning Marshall's QB). He/they will not be facing a weak FCS team this weekend. We'll see.NashvilleNeer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 6:43 pmwe don't need to worry about Campbell, but Marshall will be tough. Re: sunbelt gaining respect
Indeed. SBC is not the doormat it once was. With that said, I think the additions of App, GSU, CCU, and Georgia St along with Arkansas State, Louisiana, and Troy and the SBC is better than CUSA and MAC and competing with the others.NashvilleNeer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 6:45 pmMight be able to debate #2, but no worse than #3. Re: sunbelt gaining respect
Let's not leave out the Ragin' Cajuns. They could be the team to beat for the SBC title this season. They'll have to beat us at KBS in three weeks or so to improve their chances. They should have plenty of motivation; as they're "O-fer" all-time against App football. Sooner or later they'll hit us for a "W" and this could be the year. They're settled into a rhythm in Napier's system while our kids are playing under their third "new" head coach in three years and under yet another handful of new assistant coaches. That could bite us where it hurts sometime this season. I hope not, but...AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 7:29 pmIndeed. SBC is not the doormat it once was. Re: sunbelt gaining respect
I meant to include them so edited it. At first I was just talking about the newer teams but then accidentally left them out when I was mentioning teams who have been in the league a while. This could be the year that Louisiana beats us but if we clean up special teams then I think we can take down Louisiana. I feel much better about that game because they have to come to Boone. It is still going to be a tough one.asu66 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 4:05 pmLet's not leave out the Ragin' Cajuns. They could be the team to beat for the SBC title this season. Not even a little bit. AAC Champ controls their own destiny until they lose 2 or more games.Woodstovegang wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 10:34 pmBig 12 losses X3, Conference USA from us this was a good weekend for the Sunbelt argument for NY6. We could own our own destiny.

I would agree with you in any other year but 2020. I’m not surprised at anything any longer. But it will be tough since right now (before the B1G and others jump back) the AAC's top 3 are all ranked above the SBC top 2. And all 3 play each other in the regular season and with no divisions, the best two will rematch in the title game. Back of the napkin math, assuming the champ doesn't have surprise losses to someone outside of the top 3, the AAC champ will have gone either 2-1 or 3-0 against two ranked AAC teams. Seems unlikely for the SBC champ to jump that. Especially if it's 3-0.
