I have formed the opinion that top 25 is a big deal because your name scrolls along the bottom ticker on the 4 letter network all week. That is exposure you cannot buy.
That is very true. Also, most fans and recruits look at the top 25 scores on ESPN each week and to have your name included in there a lot gives you familiarity with those people. Then, when we recruit these kids they will know the name. It helps big in that regard for sure.

I'm glad to be ranked but but early on where we are ranked does not really matter. I start to care once November gets here because that is when the CFP comes out and that is what determines the NY6.

I don't like looking ahead but if Zac Thomas, Sutton, a couple OL, and 2-3 more seniors decided to return then we could get a lot of press in the off-season and begin ranked. If so, we could really see some big names come for a visit. I would think the combo of having a top 50 recruit planning to visit along with that type of press would probably help us with more top 300-400 type recruits.

I know we’d all love to know Zac and Corey’s thoughts on coming back next year. Multiple WRs can get on the field so Corey’s decision won’t affect recruiting or transferring as much but there’s only one QB. Zac’s decision could have an impact on the guys sitting directly behind him.

I could see Zac's decision influence for some senior starters. I wonder how many FBS schools see a lot of guys return though. It would make sense for about 60% of seniors in FBS to come back to finish degree but I am sure many will want to try the NFL.

Didn't we actually move down given all the teams that were dropped for not playing (Big 10, Pac 12, MW, MAC)?

My guess is that Zac's decision to return next year (if he does) will have more impact on guy currently on the roster than on the incoming class. Just my opinion of course.

Probably not much respect for a 15 pt win vs UNCC. Hopefully UNCC wins some hard games and we'd look better.

But main thing is Marshall and not losing for us.

We got passed by Louisiana and BYU in one poll and the other by Army and those two. We deserved it though. After this shakeup it will be harder to move up so now it becomes big if we can win by more than the spread.

If Charlotte has a good year then that will help but most thought they would be a 5 win type team. If they play all of their games I expect them to win 7 games. They will lose to UNC, probably FAU, and Duke but after that they could win the rest. I will be interested to see how they do against Marshall.

I think we all know your stance on being ranked early....but do you?

I really don't think it matters where we start because if your schedule is good enough you can rise up and be the top G5 if you run the table and beat quality teams. Plus, I much rather finish ranked than just start there and lose.

Earlier in the thread we were talking about how it does help recruiting We had talked about how the one area this helps big is for recruits to see us ranked and I mentioned that preseason rating because it could possibly help us get even more P5 caliber guys on campus. Moose has mentioned before that we may get a visit from a top 30 recruit in 2022 so I am hopeful that both things happen, which would help us get interest from more P5 guys.

food for thought.

Right now we're (hypothetically, for example) recruiting a guy who has offers from multiple P5 schools...NC State, West Virginia, Kentucky, Wake Forest, as well as Marshall, UNCC, Old Dominion...that ilk.

So today our coaches give him a call and check in with him...and we're ranked and none of the listed schools are. He's in his decision making process right now. You think we don't bring that up? That we're a football school, and we're playing and ranked right now?

It does matter, imho, to be ranked early, and not just at the end of the season. Let's take advantage of this while we can.

Agree 100%, although I really love our stadium environment , gameday experience and surrounding community being "up on the mountain", it is difficult to sell that to a recruit with P5 schools with larger facilities. We need all the help we can get.

New poll is out.

UL holds at 19. Marshall enters at 25.

We still got some votes but I suspect that’ll change after next weekend when the BIG10 and PAC12 get added back.

Coaches poll decided to bite first and add in the B1G teams. Pushes non-P5 to the following spots:

15 UCF
16 Cincinnati
20 Memphis
23 BYU
25 Louisiana

Army goes from 25 to unranked (28). App received 12 points for an unofficial ranking of 39.

UCF deservedly in the driver seat after a dominating win yesterday. Well done.

So, we would have dropped out regardless.

Keep in mind that these P5 leagues going conference only won't have their easy wins to pad their records and go 8-4 or 7-5 and will instead be 5-5 or 4-6.

We should not worry about voters thinking we are top 25 because right now, based on what we have seen so far, we have no business receiving a single vote.

You guys looked good for sure. I always pull for UCF and Cincy from AAC so glad to see you both ranked the highest.

This is why I always say the polls are a joke. We already see stupid votes every week and this year where many teams aren't playing we are seeing even more of them. Does anyone really think that UTSA is better than anyone in the SEC?
