Well I agree it was a missed opportunity - no argument here - I am just saying it isn't the doom and gloom some think -

Re: TV Ratings
That pretty well sums it up! Nobody is claiming this loss doesn't hurt. Nobody who loves App is happy about it. It's definitely being given too much weight in the minds of some of our passionate fans. The opinion of the typical college football fan means exact squat in real terms. I seriously doubt that there were tons of "new eyes" on the game Saturday. No, we don't have the equity built up of a Boise or UCF but we do have a solid resume'. This season is just getting started.

Re: TV Ratings
It’s true that everytime we get on the big stage ranked, we seem to fall short. Two straight years with Ga Southern and now Marshall. We get teams best shot every week, and we have to match that energy. We didn’t last week. But anyone with a brain can see that the 2 turnovers (especially the Evans fumble) really made the difference more so than Marshall being the better team.

Re: TV Ratings
I don't know the exact numbers but I think the most views we ever had was in the FCS Semi-finals when we were playing Montana in a snowstorm. I think there were like 3 million views on that game.ah59396 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:34 amhttp://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/s ... -2020.html
Looks like our game vs Marshall had 1.249m viewers. It’s located under the “Other” section in that link.
I can’t remember how our bowl games have done in the past but I don’t recall them having over a million viewers. Was that the most eyeballs ever on an App State game?

Re: TV Ratings
Bowl game ratings:
http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/s ... -2020.html
Myrtle Beach Bowl was the least watched of any bowl game so far. By a pretty wide margin.
About 1.5m more people watched the Cajuns. And about 2m more watched Coastal.
Obviously timing and station had a lot to do with that, but national exposure matters. The Cajuns and especially the Chants got that in spades this year.

A lot of people I know didn't even know it was on. Monday afternoon game during week of Christmas is not the best time slot. Some people still work for a living. Glad I got to watch though.

They could not put against NFL Monday night football.. When you really think about it, tough to go against General Hospital, The Young and the Restless and Ellen

Re: TV Ratings
Certainly the time slot didn't help. I don't know this for a fact, but I wonder if the later regular season schedule also contributed to people not knowing the game was happening. There was no gap at all between regular season and bowl season. We literally played our bowl the day after the CFP selection show, which is normally the day most bowl matchups are announced. (And two days after the conference title games.) That felt super-weird to me; I doubt I've had expected a bowl to be happening that day if we weren't in it.

Re: TV Ratings
I think that had a lot to do with it. I had people ask me ask me around Christmas day when App was playing. They were surprised when I told them we had already played.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:44 amCertainly the time slot didn't help. Re: TV Ratings
Day and time, not a buzz worthy game. Also a blowout that not all would have stayed tuned into even in a better day and time. Glad App got the win, nice finish to the season!goapps93 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:51 amI think that had a lot to do with it. I had people ask me ask me around Christmas day when App was playing. Re: TV Ratings
We and the Sunbelt as a whole got a lot of airtime on the main ESPN channels the whole season. Will that bring in more TV $ for the conference? Would be much needed for all programs this year.

Re: TV Ratings
It could in the future.
If the Sun Belt wins, ESPN gives us better slots. Better slots mean more eyeballs and better ratings. Better ratings means more leverage when we negotiate our next tv contract and bowl tie-ins. Which both mean more money.
Win. And especially win when people are watching. The keys to future success and stability.

Re: TV Ratings
Bringing this back with some good news.
1.71m people watched us beat Texas A&M.
2.5m! Watched Marshall beat Notre Dame on NBC.
Even the Stink for 1.2m eyeballs to beat Nebraska.
Great exposure for the Belt. Big time numbers and brand builders.

Remember back (not that long ago) when we actually played on PBS? Makes a difference for the eyeballs having games on the Mothership.

Re: TV Ratings
Thinking about it this weekend while watching the TA&M game we've come such a long way since I was a student from 2005-2011. During that time we were extremely lucky to get on ESPN, most games weren't televised and the ones that were, were typically on SportsSouth.

Re: TV Ratings
Does the media guide still print the "all time record on ESPN" section? If not, that's a clear sign how far we've come. It's a pretty regular occurrence for App to be on ESPN networks (not even including ESPN+), let's hope that trend continues.Parks&RecAPP wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 7:22 amThinking about it this weekend while watching the TA&M game we've come such a long way since I was a student from 2005-2011. Re: TV Ratings
2.2 million people sat and watched a 3 hour long App State commercial on Saturday morning. Not even sure how you qualify the value of that but it’s immense.
