It looks pretty good in person. Once they get the end zone complete and the place is packed with people it'll tie up nicely.

Re: Busy turf
Here’s what I like about it. It is distinctive. Without going with a blue or purple or red field or putting a disproportionate giant logo in the middle of the field, you will know that’s App State and that is The Rock.
After a few summers, it will probably weather some and the contrast will not be as sharp.

I would say hold off on the criticism until you see it in person, having worked in TV the camera is not always tuned perfectly. The old field in my opinion was faded this field looks much more vivid, I bet it looks great in person.

Re: Busy turf
I love it. Looks great!
Stadium is starting to finally look polished without track and with well groomed bank and corners, and consistent paint colors. Once NEZ is finished everything will look like it was planned not haphazardly thrown together like it did before these latest enhancements.
Just images what it will look like with 30k+ fans packed in.

Re: Busy turf
Did we pay him to watch game from NEZ? If anyone asks he was conducting QA testing. I would have volunteered to conduct User Acceptance Test on a NEZ seats.

Yes, amen to the track being gone etc. Just think, it was only a few yrs ago that they had soccer lines all over the turf.

Re: Busy turf
I remember a field with soccer AND field hockey AND football lines but I have no memory of any track around the field.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: Busy turf
This is just a perfect example of the old adage, 'you can't please everyone'. I have not seen it in person but I think it looks great on tv and can only imagine how much better it looks in person. Honestly, I think it is the best the field has looked since I got to App in 1988. Whoever designed it should be proud, they did a great job. But, obviously, not everyone agrees.

Re: Busy turf
New turfs have more rubber pellets. You want to see more pellets than not, or else you’d basically be playing on concrete.yosef95 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 3:58 pmOn a side note, this turf has a ton of that black rubber everywhere. The whole field is covered with it. Literally watch players run or tackle and you'll see black rubber spray every time. Clicked over to Citadel game and their turf was pristine. Perfect green

My guess is that he was up there to retrieve any kicked footballs that reached the NEZ. Curious to see if we will add a net on that end.

Re: Busy turf
My question is: does being inside/outside have anything to do with the amount or type of pellets needed to cushion a field like ours? I certainly understand the concept but it seems as if a lot of new turf fields do not "present" pellets as visibly as ours has, historically. Not criticizing or anything...safety first, but I am curious. I ask about the inside/outside thing because in watching the Panthers at Chargers game Sunday and thinking back to other recently built stadiums with turf, I don't seem to recall pellets being much of a noticeable thing, at least on the TV broadcast. Does the fact that you have a concrete base underneath the turf for an indoor/domed facility have something to do with less need for it? My gut says you would need more cushioning but maybe they have an additional level of actual padding underneath the turf when it's being laid on a solid surface, and that simply isn't an option on an outdoor field with soil and the need for drainage underneath?

Re: Busy turf
The pellets don’t really bother me, but I don’t see why fields can’t have green pellets in the green areas, white and in the white areas, and trim areas in those colors.

Re: Busy turf
I guess. But the black pellets still run over the green, white and, in our case, gold.

Re: Busy turf
I like the idea of diff color pellets, but baffled why The Citadel had new turf and it was the most beautifully perfect/flawless turf I'd ever seen. Perfectly green. Tons of NFL teams have new turf and it's perfect. Ppl talk about it "breaking in", but ours has looked like crap
