The coaches know Zac's record so he is a known commodity. That isn't the only reason he is our starter though, although his performance has been stellar! Coaches will play the players who give the team the best chance to win. DBG was certainly an exciting recruit and I personally assumed he was the heir apparent, but sometimes things just don't work as expected. Lots of reasons that can happen and I won't speculate since I have zero inside information. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 9:30 pmI think we are doing ourselves a major disservice by not giving DBG a chance. He may leave or may not. Not giving the *Highest rated recruit in school history* a chance to compete with other less athletic QBs is what holds teams back imo

I hear ya. But seriously how many guys want to go through the grind for 6 years especially if they have earned a degree and just want to move on?

Re: 2021 QB
if a player like Zac decides to come back - he could enter App grad school and play - correct?

I get that. But some guys live for the grind. And don’t underestimate the lure of hanging out with your brothers for another year.

Re: 2021 QB
I was about to say the same on DBG. I think he is already gone. Shuler probably would leave depending on if he is fine being like Huesman or depending on the battle with Tabscott, correct?AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 8:35 pmI highly doubt we see DBG in black and gold next season. Shuler already passed him on the depth chart -- before he opted out.
Shuler can make every throw, but still has to catch up to the college game.
I'm really interested in Tabscott. His tape looks very good. But again, college game is way different than high school so it's a matter of how he adapts.
Don't be surprised if enough of the team comes back if ZT decides to come back too. Especially after that Marshall loss. The leaders feels like they have more to prove.

Re: 2021 QB
I'm like many of the others that it will be Thomas or the winner of the Shuler/Tabscott battle.
The buzz going around is that most of our seniors are coming back as long as Zac Thomas returns. This team knows they can make huge waves next year and are very mad after the Marshall game.

Re: 2021 QB
It will be interesting to see who is #2 next year, if Zac indeed comes back. If we lose Zac then I am pretty sure the winner of Tabscott and Shuler will be the guy, assuming Tabscott is not poached by a P5. I am still nervous we lose 2-4 commits between now and signing day.

Huesman stays another year (and starts) and Shuler is the back up.

Re: 2021 QB
What are you talking about? We did give him a chance. It was called practice. He couldn't get the playbook and had some other issues. Nothing about how this situation was handled has "held back" this team. I would have loved for him to have shown up and been the second coming of Cam Newton but thats just not what happened.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 9:30 pmI think we are doing ourselves a major disservice by not giving DBG a chance. This year does not count towards eligibility. Basically this year is a freebie for all that play.

Re: 2021 QB
DBG is still in the university student database and is still listed as a freshman. Sounds as if he'll be around at least until the semester is over. He'll need to attain enough hours to qualify as a first semester soph plus a min. 2.00 GPA to transfer anywhere other than to a JuCo or a CC.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Just out of curiosity is anyone in the know under the impression that Zach or anyone else would really consider this? I get he has 1 more year and I'd love to have everyone back. But doesn't seem realistic at all.

Re: 2021 QB
The Walker College of Business has a unique 1-year MBA program. I would encourage all our seniors to consider that graduate program should they wish to stay and play again in 2021.
