The playcalling does tend to look better when you're facing a defense that allows 42 points per game...
I certainly agree with that as far as the execution of the plays, but just to see what they were calling and trying last night was more of what I was expecting and hoping for all season long. Slept well last night after watching that performance! Ha!

Play calling looks better when the offense is executing.

I stand by my statement that Zac is an excellent good weather QB. No wind and rain and he's money.

For those that likes the vertical passing game. We were 65/35 run/pass last night.

After seeing the first half I can see why we ran so much. It was smart since they don't have the personnel to stop it. Arkansas State has a few good players but they don't have the horses to play with us in the trenches. There were times that you could have literally drove a big truck through the holes that Hunter, Neuzil, Hodges, and Hannon were opening up.

I love seeing quick throws and going vertical but if you can control the clock with the run game and have a big lead, I think 99% of coaches are going to do it.

There are some who still would have preferred we win by 28 throwing the ball. It is clear you can destroy the will of your opponent by running it down their throat.

They did lose a CB transfer to Arkansas and DL to Baylor but had several preseason All-SBC candidates return. I was surprised they were not a little better. #18 for Ark State was the MWC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year before he transferred but he was just average. He runs pretty well but I noticed he takes a lot of bad angles and gets lost in traffic. He has 9.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks in 5 games but none of them came against us. #92 is a massive dude who was okay at times but I did not see a guy who some have told me is a potential draft pick last year.

Third and final point. We are a running team. Go back and look at the run/pass splits between Satt/Drink/Clark and I don’t think you will find much of a difference.
To piggyback off of this point, App is a run first team and IMO should remain that way as a program. Being able to run the ball and play good defense produces great results as we've seen over the past 5 years.

Not to play if's and buts, had Evans held on to the ball and App scores on that drive (fantastic play call) and Staton splits the uprights, it's a tied game without the starting RB, TE and best WR (also Virgil/Crosby went out with injury). From my coaching recliner, the biggest issue I saw during the game against Marshall was the lack of blocking from the TE/H-back position. There were several whiff blocks that I noticed that didn't give DH/CP enough time to find a hole or make a move. I would've like to see Peterson run a few more jumbo sets to assist with both run and pass blocking against the Herd.

Marshall's D played a great game and you gotta tip your cap on executing their game plan. I just think the offense could've had a bit more success had Pearson, who seems to be the best blocking TE, had been available. I realize you play with what you have available but those aforementioned missing parts can cause the offense to be out of sync and sputter.

Did the big receiver from Boiling Springs commit to us?

Caden Sullivan? He has committed to App. Sullivan plays both sides but is expected to be a safety at App.
