Hi Everybody

We play you again!

I'd ask how the games have been, but its 2020, so I guess I have to ask as a fan of a team that has gone through a significant outbreak of our own....So...How's the Covid recovery going?

Your Arkansas State primer:

Passing Game: Absolutely amazing
Running Game: What's that?
Defense: HAHAHAHAHA Don't make laugh
Special Teams: "There's a reason people call them "Special"

Good: OL, QB, RB, CB
Bad: special teams
Ugly: COVID

Both your QBs looked great vs GA St. Hope App can keep up scoring after three weeks off.

Basically:

Offense has had one good half thus far this season (against FCS team), overall marginal at best
Defense is pretty good
Special Teams: Don't make me laugh

Should be a good game though.

Offense- ready to explode
D Line- hopefully can apply pressure
Backers- fast
Secondary- ain’t allowing the video game numbers seen in other Belt games

O line- solid
QB- let the man play
Running backs- hopefully COVID free cause we are deep
Receivers- same as above but someone besides Henni has to get loose

Special teams- please kick the ball in the endzone

And, maybe kick a field goal when necessary with success.

QB's don't necessarily carry us as much as people think. Adams and Green pretty have this unique ability to catch any pass close enough to them. I think there's certainly help in the sense that we have two guys who can both run the offense if needed, and have good relationships with the receivers, but our receiving corps is scary.

Offensively, this is probably our best team since 2015. Defensively, this is probably our worst team since 2014.

I'm fully aware that you guys have far better Corners than Georgia State though. It was very clear within 4 or 5 minutes last week that GSU had no chance of stopping us provided we could avoid sacks and turnovers. We have this ability offensively to go on a roll that few can stop. If we had any semblance of a defense, we'd be really tough to beat.

Our 14 year old kicker is certainly capable of booting one through the uprights if needed. But given we're often having to match TD for TD with teams, we don't see him much outside of extra point attempts

As for whoever mentioned kickoffs earlier. We don't kick the ball into the end zone. Anderson comes from this school that its better to pooch kick it to up an upback who might fumble than kicking it out of the end zone if the ball ends up in the same place regardless.

I can’t stand the short kick on kickoffs, especially with a defense like we have, blows my mind.

Our fans hate it too, but statistically, there's no difference between booting it out of the end zone and pooch kicking it and having it fair caught at the 27. One gives you a chance at recovering a fumble (or the kickoff itself as Coastal did to us 2 weeks ago) and one doesn't.

But, it would have worked great last year. Somehow our kickoff team lost it's swagger. Last year, we begged teams to return a kick. This year.... not so much.

It can only get better!

The "somehow" is pretty obvious. Last year we had a dedicated special teams coach, this year we do not. That is one instance where I actually agree with Drink, special teams makes such a HUGE difference in games but for some reason (outside of last year) we seem to place it on the backburner and it bites us in the butt time and time again.

Well we do it every time, while wrinkling in squib kicks and other kicks we want returned. I think we've kicked it into the end zone less than 5 times this year, mostly during the UCA Game where there was a 20 mph sustained wind and everything with the wind traveled out of the end zone.

If both teams do this I predict a return for a TD tonight.

Yeah, Drink was also the Offensive Coordinator last year so that left a slot open for the ST coach. This year we have a separate Offensive Coordinator so unless we drop another coach we don't have the head space for one.

100% correct! It's not that Clark backburnered ST; it the fact the pool of money for our coaching staff is so small. So unless you have a HC that can also double as a coordinator (ala Drink) we currently can not afford three coordinators. So do we say "hey no DC we will do it by committee"? Or do we have someone double duty the ST since that phase of football is on the field the least? Obviously I would love to have a dedicated ST coach, especially of the quality of Link; but the fact remains we can not afford it.

Agree on the budget constraints which of course limits who you might be able to hire, but also the NCAA limits the number of coaches to 11 total I believe.
