Re: Top 25 Poll
The best possible scenario for us is that we see an 8-0 #15-ish ranked Coastal and win then follow that up in 2 weeks with a win over a likely #22-25 ranked 9-1 Louisiana.
There’s so much “if” there that it’s beyond wild speculation, but it’s a fun scenario that would likely catapult us right back into the top 20 if we won out.
The good news is we control our own destiny. We can win the East, win the Belt and if we run the table should finish ranked regardless of what everyone else does. That’s always a successful season in my book.

Re: Top 25 Poll
Agreed those are best possible scenarios and I'm pulling for Marshall, Louisiana, and CCU but we just need to win out. This season is so crazy though and I'm sure the best scenario for us won't happen.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 1:56 pmThe best possible scenario for us is that we see an 8-0 #15-ish ranked Coastal and win then follow that up in 2 weeks with a win over a likely #22-25 ranked 9-1 Louisiana.

The rankings help for marketing and they will come if we continue to get better and go 1-0 every week.

Go 1-0 every week. The rankings will fall in place if we do that.

Re: Top 25 Poll
Glad to see we’re getting some votes again. This season will be tough for rankings because the pollsters seem to be very in love with the marquee names.
If we continue playing as we did on Thursday night, I have no doubt we will be back in there soon. That team looked much more like a top 25 team than the one we saw in Huntington.

Re: Top 25 Poll
That is so true. The team we saw Thursday looked like a top 25 team but they have not looked like that in any of the prior games. This is why Marshall and early games were so frustrating because we know the talent is there. If we play our A game then there is nobody in the SBC that can beat us. The issue is we actually have to do it and that is harder said than done.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 2:54 pmGlad to see we’re getting some votes again. Re: Top 25 Poll
The AP poll is a joke. Ain’t no way that CCU is the 20th best team in the country. Compare their team to ours last year- player for player. We were legit top 20. Oregon at 0-0 dropped a spot. Indiana wins a game and vaults into the 17 spot. UNC wins over a top 25 (ranked) team big and they drop a spot.

Re: Top 25 Poll
Several teams have still not play a game. Give it time. It takes 10 weeks or so before they even look close in a normal year.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 3:35 pmThe AP poll is a joke. Just commenting on the specific teams you mentioned I think Indiana should be ahead of Penn State since they did beat them. In 4-5 weeks I may say they are nowhere close but in their week 1 in a head to head I give the head to head winner the benefit of the doubt.
CCU is pretty good. I agree the rankings but I am glad they are there and hope they are even higher when we face them.
I know we were ranked #18 last year but I am not sure we were the 18th best team. We were good but we did not have a win over a ranked team and lost to an unranked team. I'm glad we finished there but when you are 13-1 you are going to be ranked no matter how bad your schedule is. The good news for us is that Marshall is pretty good and our league is strong so there is going to actually be room to move up. Just give it time.

CCU is going to be ranked higher than APP and they've also done something APP hasn't in a while.....beat Georgia Southern.

Re: Top 25 Poll
My point was really directed at the guys here who analyze the hell out of the poll and worry to death about votes that we get. I’ve always felt that nobody should be ranked until after 6 games. The top 10 (maybe) are usually legit then the next 10 are a crapshoot. I just find it funny that a team can be 0-0 and drop. I honestly couldn’t care less.NoLongerLurking wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:29 pmDude. Pandemic poll. Chill.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 3:35 pmThe AP poll is a joke. Who exactly is “worried to death” about the polls? Is this not an App State football message board? Are the AP and Coaches Poll not relevant to that? What topics would you prefer we discuss on here?bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 6:44 pmMy point was really directed at the guys here who analyze the hell out of the poll and worry to death about votes that we get. Should the board sit dead until Gameday?

Good. I hope they are ranked in the top 15 when we play them so we can make a statement game. I hope CCU, and even Marshall, just keeps on winning for a while.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 5:33 pmCCU is going to be ranked higher than APP and they've also done something APP hasn't in a while.....beat Georgia Southern.

Technically you are right but it is just not a big deal anymore unless we reach uncharted grounds. CCU is all excited because they have never been ranked: https://www.coastalfans.com/forum/index ... ic=60693.0ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 7:06 pmWho exactly is “worried to death” about the polls? Liberty is excited and Cincy is tracking because they are in the top 10 but for P5 schools and the rest of us who are use to it I just don't think they feel receiving a few votes matters yet. In 10 years from now you won't even care unless we are ranked in the top 15.
When it comes to polls, keep in mind that there are over 50 teams getting votes right now, it is still early, and we are in a pandemic season when this is even more of a crapshoot. With all the other stuff we have to navigate it means you could lose to a team who is nowhere near as good just because you have 15-20 players out. I hope that does not happen to us. We need to stay COVID-19 free big time. Example, Arkansas State beat Kansas State but KSU had over 10 players out due to COVID-19. I bet KSU would win that rematch by 20+.
As for what to talk about, we have ULM this week. I know a lot about Louisiana, GSU, and CCU (seen on TV) but ULM is one of the teams I have not focused on at all this year so I would love to see a lot of info on them. I know they have the RB Johnson who will get a NFL shot and their TE is the son of the Eagles HC but other than that I don't know much beyond scores.
Anyone have a feel on this game?

A few interesting notes on a potential matchup with CCU. Assuming we both win out, that will be historic if we beat CCU. It would be our first win over a ranked G5 team and ranked team since moving up. Louisiana and others have received votes when we beat them but we still don't have a win over a ranked team. Beating a ranked team and defending the first national ranking are two things that Louisiana and CCU did that we have not done. I don't care though as long as we win the SBC but still amazing. Took a long time for a SBC to be ranked and then the first two who do lose right after while the two this year both defended their ranking.

Re: Top 25 Poll
If things play out and we knock off a possible ranked CCU team you would need to hang an asterisk beside it obviously. COVID aided wins or losses are all crazy. A team that decides to play down a bunch of key players is on an unlevel playing field. While that potential matchup and win will be great it ain’t a “tear down the goalposts “ W.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 8:09 pmI think he meant, and several others as well, that he doesn't care about just receiving votes.
