Agreed but would still technically be that win I described. I'm just hoping both of our teams are healthy and no C19 positives so that game won't need the asterisk.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 8:36 pmIf things play out and we knock off a possible ranked CCU team you would need to hang an asterisk beside it obviously. COVID aided wins or losses are all crazy. A team that decides to play down a bunch of key players is on an unlevel playing field. While that potential matchup and win will be great it ain’t a “tear down the goalposts “ W.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 8:09 pmI think he meant, and several others as well, that he doesn't care about just receiving votes. It’s an App State athletics/college football message board. It’s simply conversation about a topic of interest.
A few interesting notes on a potential matchup with CCU. Assuming we both win out, that will be historic if we beat CCU. It would be our first win over a ranked G5 team and ranked team since moving up. Louisiana and others have received votes when we beat them but we still don't have a win over a ranked team. Beating a ranked team and defending the first national ranking are two things that Louisiana and CCU did that we have not done. I don't care though as long as we win the SBC but still amazing. Took a long time for a SBC to be ranked and then the first two who do lose right after while the two this year both defended their ranking.

Same amount of votes as last week and we got leapfrogged by someone. Appropriate given we’ve only beaten one team I’d consider decent (Arky State).
Liberty in the top 25 and UL right on the edge looking in.
As I said last week, if UL and Coastal take care of business like they should, we will have every opportunity to show everyone how good we are. Or aren’t.
Should be an exciting couple weeks in the Belt!

Gotta give Liberty, an independent, credit for putting that schedule together this year. Three ACC opponents. Wow.

Re: Top 25 Poll
It’s interesting that our team/players apparently mentions that App is out of the national conversation per announcers on last two weeks ESPN broadcasters. Well if they want the national media to pay more attention to them then they need to step up our game to be more “impressive” like other top 25 teams. That is how the system works.

Re: Top 25 Poll
I agree. They're having an excellent season and have a couple of decent wins. I will still be surprised if they don't lose at least two games before the end of the season though. VT, NC State and Coastal are all likely "L" for the Flames. Should be interesting though.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 2:50 pmGotta give Liberty, an independent, credit for putting that schedule together this year. Three ACC opponents. Wow.

Re: Top 25 Poll
We should not be getting any votes but this vote shows you that we can't just beat teams but we have to beat them by more than spread. Voters will not watch our entire games, unless it is against a top 25 team, so we have to win by big margins.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 2:17 pmhttps://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-colleg ... oll?week=9

Liberty is doing a great job. Glad to see them getting recognition they deserve after a phenomenal effort to put a schedule together as an independent.
We need to pull hard for UL and CCU now. Chadwell is trying to position himself for a P5 job and he understands that big wins will help get media attention for his team and himself. They just beat a record we set with the highest national ranking for a SBC team.
Let's hope that CCU is in the top 15, maybe even 11-13 range, when we play them so a win would really get us positioned where we need to be. We need to play a lot better though because I have yet to see our team play like a top 25 team this year. It is frustrating because we have the talent to be in the top 20. Maybe we will finally step it up in November.

Re: Top 25 Poll
Most media don't watch the games and just see the scores. That is indeed how it works and if we want to get national respect we better win by big margins. The good news is that with UL and CCU being ranked we will just need to beat them but it would have been nice to beat ULM by 30-40, like our talent would tell you we should.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 3:00 pmIt’s interesting that our team/players apparently mentions that App is out of the national conversation per announcers on last two weeks ESPN broadcasters. Re: Top 25 Poll
Yes. We had the highest ranking with 18 last season but that just got shattered by Coastal Carolina. Chadwell is a heck of a coach. He knows how to get media attention and I would imagine they will beat the spread in every game against SBC bottom dwellers.

Re: Top 25 Poll
Have to admit, I like the Coastal offense. Keeps defenses off balance. It is in stark contrast to App offense, especially, when it comes to predictability. Chadwell has been successful at every school he has coached and used to beat a much better funded Coastal team when he was head coach at CSU. I predict Coastal will load the box and go man on us to force is to throw. We need some new wrinkles in passing game in coming weeks.

Also impressive is Oregon at 0-0 up 2 spots and USC also at 0-0 up 1 spot. Coastal doing a great job but in a normal year they aren’t at 15 right now. Should be a good one when we play.

I believe I read somewhere that its the second highest. Marshall was higher at one point back in their ‘belt days.

One week at a time, but we are better than Coastal or ULL from what I've watched. Better not kickoff to their returners though.

Marshall was never in the Sunbelt, they went from 1AA to the MAC, then to Conf USA.AppinATL wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 8:10 pmI believe I read somewhere that its the second highest. Marshall was higher at one point back in their ‘belt days.

I second the Good grief....It is a chat room. Discussion...Not changing the world.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 7:06 pmWho exactly is “worried to death” about the polls? I’ve always felt that nobody should be ranked until after 6 games. The top 10 (maybe) are usually legit then the next 10 are a crapshoot. I just find it funny that a team can be 0-0 and drop. I honestly couldn’t care less.NoLongerLurking wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 4:29 pmDude. Pandemic poll. Chill.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 3:35 pmThe AP poll is a joke. Ain’t no way that CCU is the 20th best team in the country. Compare their team to ours last year- player for player. We were legit top 20. Oregon at 0-0 dropped a spot. Indiana wins a game and vaults into the 17 spot. UNC wins over a top 25 (ranked) team big and they drop a spot.
Should the board sit dead until Gameday?
Good grief.
