Twitter Account

Does anyone have any idea why our @AppState_FB twitter account isn't verified? We have the most followers of any Sun Belt football account by far and yet many of the other accounts are verified and ours isn't. Even the App State Athletics account is verified, and it has 12k-13k fewer followers than our football account does. This isn't really a big deal, but it looks pretty amateur hour not to have the blue check. I've messaged Doug about this but nothing has changed. We should try to get this changed.

Yeah, it should be. Shawn Clark's and Gillin's also aren't verified, and IIRC it took Satt quite a while to get his verified too. Probably means the department just isn't on top of sending in the request for to Twitter, but as you say, the App State Athletics account is verified, so I don't know why they wouldn't do the others.

The @AppState_FB Twitter account used to be verified before it was suspended by Twitter in the summer of 2019 due to music copyright violations with some of its past videos. After being reinstated, the blue checkmark was gone.
Unfortunately, since 2017 Twitter has not accepted any requests by account holders to get verified. That may explain why Coach Clark and Doug Gillin's accounts are not currently verified, either. For perspective, Satterfield and Drinkwitz's accounts were only verified after they left App State.

So...if Twitter hasn't accepted requests to be verified since 2017, how have Drink and Satt been verified since then, after leaving App?

For the last 3 years, it's Twitter management that identifies who gets verified, allowing those coaches to be verified. At this time, there is no opportunity for individuals or organizations to apply for verification.

Does being verified really matter to anyone outside the person being verified? I mean, I understand it generally means that person is who they say they are, but it seems like for most, it’s just an ego fluff. I follow like 10 verified accounts, and could care less about the blue check.

Its basically letting you know its the real person/entity and not a fan/fake/parody account.

May be a stupid question....Who owns that account? Is it AppState?
