I’ve watched GA St play for the fourth time yesterday. Their pass defense is one of the worst in the conference. The offensive game plan played to their strengths. To deny that isn’t rational.

Williams, Virgil, Wells, and Horn are more than enough talent to attack their pass defense.

We are masking offensive line injuries by running pound the middle with 9 in the box? Not making me feel better.

Yesterday was the perfect opportunity to use the short to medium passing game to open up the run. We are stubborn and not versatile in our approach. When we can’t run and open holes we don’t adapt. Marshall was the first time, yesterday same game plan.

If we run that plan out the next four weeks we go 2-2 at best.

We have the talent to win any remaining game.
Perhaps you should apply for the next Appalachian State University football coaching position.

That's empty because you know that can't happen.

I'll play along, wish somebody would apply and get the job, they might do better, certainly not any worse. Being objective, the play calling adjustments stunk or didn't exist, we ran right at their strength trying to impose our will all game long, it might work against the likes of Campbell, but sometimes it doesn't work and adjustments have to be made SOON after you see that it "A'int Working" Didn't see any counter plays running or short passing against an aggressively pursuing defense that knew where we were going to run. We aren't difficult to scout when our game plan runs every play up the middle and mostly to the right side. We are pretty predictable. It is frustrating watching our runner and 3 blockers take on 7-8 tacklers in a stacked box for 47 running plays.

I'll eat my crow with DJ, the only issue I can grumble about is the obligatory first TD drives that we give up and spot 7 every game.

If you aren't interested, perhaps some of the other members of this message board who appear to know more than our present coaching staff might be. I'll leave it up to you and/or your tailgating buddies to figure out if I am being sarcastic or facetious or not.

I honestly don’t understand why we don’t use more speed on the outside run or the occasional reverse. Whoever said it looked like Ron Rivera was coaching was pretty close.

Hats off to Dale Jones btw

Zac needs to sit, at least for a while.
Well, lucky you. Looks like the guy who chose to play for App will indeed be sitting for a while or maybe longer..What an FDA you are. I can't tell you the number of times I've heard Notre Dame and Clemson fans say how lucky we are to have him and how we would never have him now without the injury he suffered his Senior year. But NOOOOO, you MFs can't see what we have.. you have to wish he would F'ing sit for a while...Well, you dumb ass...looks like you got your wish. I am soooo tired of you f'ing idiots talking about athletes as if you know what the F you are talking about. Hope you feel satisfied.
Unnecessary. He didn’t play well. Doesn’t mean we want him hurt. You’re the FDA
My apologies, I am really disappointed in the Armchair Quarterbacking going on on the board...were you at the game? From my seat in my LR, our Offense looked terrible but I couldn't see the whole field and I haven't watched G State play. My guess is, any Offensive problems we have are unlikely Zac's fault. To me we looked a bit flat, much like at Marshall...to win against Coastal, we will need to be much better.
Apology accepted...and just so we’re clear, I never want to see any player injured, and I have a lot of respect and appreciation for Zac and what he has accomplished. But sitting a QB for a series is hardly an uncommon move. It provides time to gather yourself, get a different perspective from the sidelines, talk to the OC and go back in ready to do business.
I think the team rallies around Zac and/or Huesman and plays their asses off in Conway.
But as far as I’m concerned, the jury is still out on Peterson. Repeatedly trying to pound it up the middle against a loaded box ain’t cuttin’ it. As I said in an earlier post, we are 2nd and 9 on far too many occasions. Opposing defenses are loading the box and forcing Zac to throw it on obvious passing downs, which allows opposing defenses to adjust their coverage, dial up a blitz, etc. That makes it much harder for Zac to be successful in the passing game.

I agree but I have two thoughts
1. We also have to execute and something has been wrong with ZT for a while now.
2. Costal has beaten exactly 2 teams with winning records. Even with our crappy play calling we can beat them if we execute.
But we haven't beaten any team with a winning record. Our 4 Sun Belt wins come against teams with a combined 4-18 conference record. And, they beat Ga State 51-0.

I do believe we can win Saturday, but let's not undersell what Coastal has done this year. Marshall and Ga State have shown what it takes to stop our offense, especially the run game.

We will need to be less predictable and not be as hard headed in our plan.

I agree. Perhaps we should consider using the short passing game on first down...or anything besides running up the A gap against a stacked box.

I am in agreement. That is why I said if we execute. If ZT were playing like he can and we had someone calling plays who had any idea what he was doing we would have hung 51 on them also. I will say though that Coastal has been WAY over hyped by the media.

How please?
Love week, trying to sit certain players even though position coaches said no, trying to play players that were injured, tried to change the player led team, etc.

It was clear as day when the players celebrated when he was hired by Mizzou!

Just saw someone post on SB board that Harrington is out for season? I’ve seen nothing of that.

Calls here to fire coaches, especially at the half are insane. Anyone ready to pony up a couple million bucks to pay the new staff we need to bring in today after firing the one who has us at 6-1? Could you imagine the news article- “Perennial power App State fires coordinators despite 6-1 record during an incredibly jacked up, crazy COVID filled year due to the outcry of ridiculous armchair coaches on the team’s message board.”

OK - that would be 29-3 (officially 29-4 counting the 3-play start vs. GsSo) - either way he is second in the FBS behind only Trevor Lawrence!!! - and some want to bench him????????????

I'm not calling for anyone to be fired midseason. With that said though, at the conclusion of this season I hope the offensive staff gets re-evaluated and possibly re-tooled. Just because our D has drug us to 6-1, should not exempt the offensive staff from getting some heat. We all know the talent on that side of the ball, but it hasn't translated to the field. Why? Most likely it's because we are in our third offensive system in three years, so getting continuity is key for our program. The flip side of that though is keeping mediocrity in the program for the sake of continuity will be detrimental to the growth of our program.

I wasn't calling for him to be benched, but I have definitely been asking where the real ZT has been. He has been in a funk most of the season.
