That's darn good considering we haven't beaten a team with a winning record thus far. Personally i am always proud of our team, win or lose, as long as we strive for good sportsmanship from buzzer to buzzer and not just shaking hands with our opponents and exchanging pleasantries , etc. as we are leaving the field. Just my personal opinion.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:47 amOur message board doesn't think much of our App Football team but the rest of the world is pretty happy with what we are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there are 62 AP voters. Three have us in there Top 25s (two at 24 and one at 25). Tulsa (currently ranked 25) has votes from 47 voters.

Not really. Every other team who's 5-1 or better is ranked, plus 4-1 Tulsa. We're also behind 2-loss SMU in both polls. Barely any votes in the AP poll. Better in the coaches', but still 100+ points away from being ranked and barely ahead of 2-1 Purdue, 2-3 Missouri and 3-4 Kentucky.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:47 amOur message board doesn't think much of our App Football team but the rest of the world is pretty happy with what we are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a 6-1 team who finished last season in the top 20, we're getting very little recognition from pollsters.

Oh man, I can't wait for at least one post to say how App doesn't deserve these votes. It comes every week, now we just sit and wait.
Give 'em hell!

Re: Up to 29th on Coaches poll. 34th AP top 25
The only reason the pollsters have us mentioned at all is because of our name and we are 6-1 with only loss to a ranked team. We would be ranked at 6-1 if we had just looked good against ULM, Texas State, and Georgia State. Voters have been dropping us slowly because our margin of victories lately has been less than expected.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:47 amOur message board doesn't think much of our App Football team but the rest of the world is pretty happy with what we are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a look at our point totals in the polls the last 4 weeks
Week 9: AP- 6; Coaches- 16
Week 10: AP-6 ; Coaches- 32
Week 11: AP- 5; Coaches- 25
Week 12: AP- 5; Coaches 24
Based on where we were in week 9 we should be 23-26 range and have over 30 points in AP and 70-80 in Coaches.
I'm proud of the character of our team and the talent we have assembled. I just wish we knew what was holding us back and could fix it. Is it possible we are sandbagging? If so, I hope we finally stop and put everything we have out there because our remaining schedule is very difficult.
The good news about this game is that we face a ranked team that will be an upset if we win so it does not matter the margin as long as we win.

I really dont know if we deserve votes or not?
I'll go nuts if we run up the gut and dont get something going and refuse to adjust. clearly we want to head that direction and shorten the game and number of possessions CC gets. keep their O off the field.
As far as comparing weeks remember that the Big 10 and pac!2 joined the party............

Those teams joined a few weeks ago. The first week they were announced back in is one thing but we have gradually lost points because of our play. As mentioned above, the good news this week is that if we just win at all we will move up the polls. We have been playing teams where the margins matter but with CCU and UL it won't matter as long as we win.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:15 amI really dont know if we deserve votes or not?

My exact thoughts as well. We are not running like a well oiled machine, far from it. Lots of warts that allow us to "get by" against bottom dwellers but will be exposed in dramatic fashion against a quality opponent like CC, UL, GaSo. In years past I have said we should be in top 25 at times but this year I am not seeing in when I watch our games.

Exactly. With our current resume, it is hard to rank us or give any votes without giving credit for last year and what we have returning. We are not playing like a top 25 team by any means but we have the talent to do so and ample opportunity to prove it in this final stretch. If we win out we will be and deserve to be top 20. I just don't see it happening unless we have been limiting the playbook on purpose.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:41 amMy exact thoughts as well. The idea that we are sandbagging is ridiculous and pompous.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:52 amExactly. You don’t sandbag to the point that you’re in danger of losing pretty deep into the fourth quarter.
Our team plays with no energy and our play calling is numbing.

I agree with what you are saying but I say sandbag as in limiting the playbook. I hope that is the case but with how we look I know that we have other issues as well.yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:59 amThe idea that we are sandbagging is ridiculous and pompous.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 11:52 amExactly. We have (in my opinion) a solid top 20 defense. Our offense on the other hand...

Very talented on defense for sure. It would not surprise me if 2-3 defensive players on this current roster end up getting drafted over next 2 years. One thing we have that can even make up for a bad call sometimes is the fact we have a fast defense.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:50 pmWe have (in my opinion) a solid top 20 defense. Re: Up to 29th on Coaches poll. 34th AP top 25
I think the worry on defense was what would Dale Jones do and will anyone on the DL step up. We knew the DBs and LBs had a ton of talent and should be stout. You expect guys like Earle to step up but until they do you don't know for sure. We knew the talent was there but yes concerned when you have the top defender in league gone and have to replace a few key guys.
The offense has talent but a lot of injuries and what appear to be bad game plans and very vanilla playcalling has held us back.

Re: Up to 29th on Coaches poll. 34th AP top 25
If we beat Coastal this weekend, we will be ranked without a doubt. I think most voters are waiting to see if we are any good.
Beat an undefeated, #15 ranked Coastal on ESPN2 in the dirty and suddenly we are a 7-1 ball team with a quality win, whose only loss came to a top #15 ranked Marshall in Huntington.
Then we get Troy on ESPNU, then possibly a still ranked ULL.
Win the next 3 televised ball games and we are a deserving top 20 team in the drivers seat for the sunbelt title. Lose them and it is what it is.
We will know who this team is by December.

Lose this weekend and SB title is gone, that's the main thing. Then we'd just be trying for low bowl.
