Bowl Games

Unread post by WVAPPeer » Sat Nov 28, 2020 9:42 pm

Does anyone know what the criteria is this season for bowl games? - Is there an NCAA mandated minimum number of wins? What about teams with losing records? What happens if team/s have covid issues in the period between conference championships and scheduled bowl dates? Will the SBC release top teams to play in non-SBC tie-ins?

The NCAA waived win requirements for bowl games this year.

I imagine that they will take teams to create matchups and ratings. Ticket sales won’t factor into who goes. You can probably see some 6 win teams staying home for some sexier 5 win teams. Looking at you Southern.

I think the real question is how many bowl games will actually be played? Of those games, how many will feature 4 win P5 “names”, instead of 9 win G5 teams?

From what I understand:
Espn gets 1st pick of SB Teams to fill a slot in 1 of 8 possible bowls. These bowls include: Boca Raton, Camellia Bowl, Cure Bowl, MB Bowl, First Responders in Dallas, Frisco bowl,Idaho potato bowl, and NM bowl.
NO Bowl gets 2nd pick
Espn gets 3rd and 4th pick to fill same allotment of bowls mentioned above
Mobile picks 5th SB team for the Lending Tree Bowl.

I'm thinking Coastal gets that 1st pick assuming they win out to play another G5 conference champ.
UL goes to NO bowl with 2nd pick.
App goes 3rd to ESPN bowl vs 2nd place G5 team that will give high ratings.
I assume either Montgomery, MB, or Orlando.

UL nor Coastal will not be playing in the New Orleans bowl. That game is on Dec 23rd. The SunBelt championship is on the 19th. The dates just don't work out.

I've seen a couple of bowl projections, and I know they aren't worth anything, but projected us in the Cure Bowl against UCF...that would excite me.

I’ll be shocked if had of the SBC bowls are played.

Let’s win the next two and send these seniors off right.

Coastal may very well have an undefeated season with a SunBelt Championship and wins over a P5 team and a ranked team....and end up in the Camélia Bowl or Lendingtree Bowl.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ns-week-13

If we end up in New Orleans against La Tech and they go to Montgomery and play Buffalo, I think we clearly got the better end of that deal.

Which is an incredible injustice to how good that Costal team is and a damn shameful way for them to end their year.

BUT, it does make me feel a little bit better about 2020 not being the year we finally struck gold and went undefeated or whatever.

If Cincy gets in the playoff does that count as the G5 NY6 representative or under that scenario does that leave an opening for Coastal to get the cotton bowl? That would be nice if they could get in the NY6.

That's what I am referring to when saying 3rd rate bowl - I mean the SBC not that the SunBelt teams don't deserve better - We did last year - CC does this year - ULL is probably always happy to go to NO, I don't know ---

I totally agree with some of you that TV ratings are going to dictate bowl matchups instead of schedules/records. CC may yet get crapped on. If both records are equal I would guess Marshall gets the better at large bowl game over CC because of the name recognition and because this was the 50th anniversary.

I guess you are assuming that the SBC allows CC to choice their own game instead of a SBC tie-in
