Polls: Others receiving votes
We still have 3 votes in the coach's poll. Can you PLEASE stop with the "we're ranked ____ based on votes"?

I missed the date of this original post. I’m trying to delete my response as it doesn’t applyappgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 3:11 pmWe still have 3 votes in the coach's poll. Can you PLEASE stop with the "we're ranked ____ based on votes"?

It looks like that OP was made last December, in 2020, and somehow Black Saturday happened across it and replied to a 2020 post with the "Is CCU ranked" comment...Seattleapp wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:34 amYou are the biggest troll on this board. Re: Polls: Others receiving votes
We all know (or should know) that most of these polls are useless. Has any team ever gone from “receiving votes” to the top 10 with 3 games to play in their season? If that is even possible then maybe it’s something to be concerned about. I would bet that the answer if a definite no. Hopefully we are not at a point where we thump our chests and boast that we now are regularly in that “other” category. In my opinion if our program can stay in a legit top 30 nationally that pretty damn good. That means that App State is recognized as being in the top 25% of the highest level of college football. Cincinnati is proof that top 10 is possible but realistically we can’t drop a game to achieve it. Most of us realists should also know that very little effort goes into choosing spots 11 and down. Coastal is a darling and could win their last 3 games by a point and still won’t fall out.

Re: Polls: Others receiving votes
I am going to reply to the original post about whether we are "ranked" when receiving votes. We are NOT ranked in the top 25 for sure but technically if we receive votes we land somewhere in the overall ranking, be it 32, 33 or whatever. I think everyone would have to say that the list does mean that in the nation we are ranked somewhere vs "unranked" for everybody else that doesn't get any votes.

This whole we got a vote thing feels much like everyone gets a trophy to me.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:10 amI am going to reply to the original post about whether we are "ranked" when receiving votes. 1) you can recognize that it matters in continuing to build a national brand. If you understand marketing then you will appreciate it.
2) you can look at it like the old NCAA basketball tournament "consolation game" where the losers of the semifinal game got to play before the title game. That was definitely a consolation trophy for 3rd place.
I am a proponent of #1 - Living in the Top 25 helps the App State football brand on a national scale. It make us more relevant and helps all aspects of our university from an athletics point of view. You can call it a beauty contest, consolation prize, any name you want to use to try to demean it, pooh pooh it, but the reality is, people look at that list and if you are on the list, they perceive you as relevant.

Re: Polls: Others receiving votes
I understand what you are saying but talking about getting a couple of votes is not being on the list. That is my only point.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:52 pmAtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:51 pmTwo trains of thought:bcoach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:23 amThis whole we got a vote thing feels much like everyone gets a trophy to me.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:10 amI am going to reply to the original post about whether we are "ranked" when receiving votes. Re: Polls: Others receiving votes
Most top 25 teams get their games on national TV every week. That’s a good thing. Your game highlights are on the recap shows and get write ups online. That’s a good thing. The more time you spend in the top 25, the more likelihood of being there in future seasons because of past perception. That’s a good thing.
To dismiss polls and being in the top 25 is a failure to see the long term big picture.
